I applied for my SSN about ten days after receiving my work permit and now its been over two weeks and still no SS card. I already visited their office two times and they said they're still waiting for DHS clearance, the clerk said it might be because my name is too common. Anybody else had this problem?

Some people have to wait longer for their SSN.

When you went to apply, your information wasn't verified on the spot through the computer, so the SSA has to mail out your paperwork to DHS and have it verified manually.

Check your receipt that you got when you applied for the SSN, it probably says you should get it within 4 weeks. When your information is verified on the spot, the receipt says you will get your SSN within 2 weeks.

I'm on my 4th week waiting for my ssn. Apparently it can take less time than what they tell you the wait is but can also take longer as well.

I went to the suburbs, palos hills. I was working nearby. They said USCIS had my middle name in their system twice and would have to be corrected. At this point it's taking longer to get my ssn than it took to get my ead card after bios.

I waited exactly a week for the card to arrive. Maybe verification process is longer in different states. I've seen a lot of Cali people wait a week for theirs.

As a heads up...please make sure your name is spelled correctly on your SS card. I just had somebody who has had his card for more than three years and hadn't noticed his last name was misspelled (missing a letter) and I was the one who noticed it.

Same thing happened to me.. but instead of going to their office which is an hour away from where I live, I called. The lady told me that it hadn't been cleared, so she just asked me for some of my info and said that she was going to clear it there. I got my social 5 days later. So you should try calling.

Thanks for the tip, I did called them yesterday but they were not very helpful I will try tomorrow. How long did wait before they did that?
