I was afraid they would think "if it's an emergency, why doesn't she want to go right away" but I did want to be there for that date and I didn't want to lie. They were also VERY quick, they received my app on May 20 and I received the approval today, June 18 so less than a month!!! I did ask for them to expedite though (no extra cost).

I can't wait to hug my grandparents and relatives again after 12 years!

I'm wondering which airport you flew into and whether or not they asked if you are adjusting status? Did they ask you anything at all? If so, what did you answer?
I'm just nervous because the people I've heard from all had pending i130's so when asked if they were adjusting they all said yes but I have nothing other than DACA. Please let me know! I am going to be super nervous when it comes time to actually leave the country! Thanks
Just curious, what kind of proof did you sumbmit? Did you send a DR's note from your grandpas doctor?

You're right, before departure the individual in question must have their deportation case closed if possible. The only question would be if someone has a good enough attorney who can do a joint motion with the government to have it closed in front of a judge.

Perhaps it might be best to do through your legal representative after approval of DACA, provided the deportation order was gotten derivatively from a parent and might be possible since the current administration is more lenient.

From the USCIS website:
Quote:
If USCIS has deferred action in your case under the deferred action for childhood arrivals process after you have been ordered deported or removed, you may still request advance parole if you meet the guidelines for advance parole described above. However, once you have received advance parole, and before you actually leave the United States, you should seek to reopen your case before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) and obtain administrative closure or termination of your removal proceeding.

Even after you have asked EOIR to reopen your case, you should not leave the United States until after EOIR has granted your request. If you depart after being ordered deported or removed, and your removal proceeding has not been reopened and administratively closed or terminated, your departure may result in your being considered deported or removed, with potentially serious future immigration consequences. If you have any questions about this process, you may contact the ICE Office of the Public Advocate through the Office’s telephone hotline at 1-888-351-4024 (staffed 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday) or by email at [email protected].
Like Ianus said, talk to a lawyer first. (But don't get gouged.)

I sent a Dr's note (original), copy of grandparents marriage certificate (was trying to show proof of their 60th wedding anniversary) and copy of my birth certificate (states my grandparent's names which I used to demonstrate proof of kinship) all notarized and translated as well as DACA approval letter, copy of my passport and 2 photos. Oh and don't forget to write a letter explaining why you need to travel.

I'm sorry about your loss So sad we have to go through that.
But I am so happy I will finally have the chance to! I honestly have always feared I would lose them before being able to return. I lost my paternal grandparents while I was here and it was sad but I wasnt nearly as close to them as I am to my mom's side.

I'm over 25 year old, college graduated, was legally entered but overstayed more than 10 years. My mother granted green card few years ago, so I'm also on the waiting line.

I got my DACA approval in 8 weeks, and AP about 5 weeks.

Before I left, I asked my lawyer about this travel. One of the greatest benefit is I can I apply EB-1 (in the future) when I come back.

For another questions:

I got in via JFK airport, some people in the waiting room were taken for questioning, I didn't. I just waited there, they verified my papers, then let me entered. No question, no talk.

I am glad that some people have been approved for Advance Parole since I am ready to apply for AP myself this coming Monday.

According to this guide from the non-profit Educators Fair Consideration (E4FC), there has been cases where AP has been approved for educational purposes, such as studying abroad.
http://www.e4fc.org/images/E4FC_GOTDACA.pdf
This is a good read for those who have been approved for DACA.

I have been accepted to study a master's program at the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom. The program lasts 12 months, and I will be asking for permission to leave the country for 15 months.

I have always wanted to study abroad. And the university has given me a scholarship that covers 100% tuition costs! So this is kind of like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me.

I am aware of the consequences and risks of leaving the US under Advance Parole, but after some thinking I believe that this is such a great opportunity to pass by. I have been living in the US without lawful status for 16 years, waiting for the DREAM Act / immigration reform to pass. In my case I don't think I can keep waiting more years confined to this country. At this point I will leave the US to pursue the MA program even if Advance Parole is denied.

I will report how my case goes in case there are other members interested in applying for Advance Parole to study abroad, or do a whole graduate program abroad.

Read the instruction CAREFULLY. I believe max you can stay out is 12 months.

I read the instructions, and I did not see anywhere where it said that the maximum time limit was 12 months. It is up to USCIS, on its discretion, to decided whether to grant the amount that you are requesting.
