Hey everyone, so I was approved this week and I've had a valid social security number with a card that has the "Not Eligible for Employment" stamped on it. I was wondering how do I go about changing that now that I am eligible. Thanks!

Go to a local social security office:
Bring the following:
1) Filled out form SS-5, in question 5 mark "Legal Alien Allowed To Work", and fill out your number **
2) Your Employment Authorization Card
3) A secondary ID (one of the following):
  • Foreign birth certificate
  • Foreign passport
  • US Military Record
  • US Military ID card
  • Religious record showing age or date of birth
  • US Driver License
  • US State ID card
  • School record showing age or date of birth (ex. transcript)
  • School ID card
  • Copy of medical record

** - You can also obtain the form at the office, but it's probably better to just fill it out at home, being able to type in the information and having plenty of time to re-check everything over and over again.

All documents used must be the originals, or certified copies.

The card should arrive in about 2 weeks.

I just got approved and I have the same issue, did you get a corrected card?

just go to the SSA office, apply for a new one, list your SSN on the app. they may ask you for the old one, not sure but the new one will say "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION"

doesnt mean you can only use it for work. you can use it for pretty much anything expect if a job requires you to be a PR or USC, to vote, etc.

also, if you have/had a ITIN you used before DACA, you should either stop by the IRS office or call them so that you can transfer your credit history over to your SSN.

I had a social stamped exactly the same. all they asked for was the form filled out, my ead, and my passport. all i told them is that i needed to update my card. And they entered the info and kept my old card . It took 4 days for me to get the card in the mail. It's quick bc you already have a number. Also they told me that my number would be ready for e-verify after 24 hours. So i started applying for jobs right away.

If you already had an SSN number before, you will keep the same one. I'm not sure what would happen if you omit your old SSN number.
