Especially senators and representatives, who scream amnesty before even reading the bill, which has so many conditions that half the illegal people would not qualify or not finish the process. Theres the whole trigger thing, which all the antis want. So why do some people make up idiotic reasons to nott support this bill, when clearly, if appropriately ammened is an excellent bill.

True. At least many senators changed their minds because in the beginning there were only like 20 senators approving it, and in the end there were 69

From what I've seen others posted there were still quite a few Senators who hadn't vote. Most of those that didn't vote also seem to be running Presidential elections & are also pro-legalization.

Keep in mind that yesterday's vote was only procedural. Indeed we will have some people who voted yes on cloture and will vote no for the actual bill and vice versa. Senator Nelson (NE) is a good example. While he voted yes yesterday, he may actually vote no for the bill itself. He is largely regarded as the most conservative Democrat in the Senate. Senator Grassley is also another good example.

My point is that we shouldn't be jumping to any conclusions just yet. The process has only just begun.

Rock, what you say is very true but I don't think there is much to worry about as we go through the amendment process.I'm pretty sure we have more than enough Senators[or at least 50] to ensure that the legalization provisions don't become to repressive by some of the Republican amendments that will be offered by Senators like Vitter & Sessions.I'm pretty sure these will be the main two that will try to get party-line amendments like what Kyl tried last year to S.2611[what a difference a year makes].

If people like Nelson and Grassley vote no, those votes can be replaced by individuals such as Clinton, Obama, Biden, or Kerry, who were absent yesterday and did not vote.

Hopefully they'll have some time to take away from their campaigning. They had better be present the day the final vote is held.

I'd also like to add that Sessions, although he's usually a loony, made some very sound points yesterday. He talked about giving preference to those immigrants that have laid foundations in this country over many years over those who simply came a few days ago. I think that the 1/1/2007 date is too lenient. I know our opponents will say that illegal is illegal, but to think that someone who has spent less than a year here would be lumped into the same category as say someone who has been here for decades and has raised a family here is concerning.

I am also a fan of the point-based system which Sessions advocates. I have several uncles that came via my grandfather who is a U.S. citizen that do nothing with their lives. One of them is over 40 with no job and sponges off of the rest of the family. My dad, who is the hardest working of his family, has a college degree (unlike many of his bros), and has had decades of experience working in engineering, is stuck in the backlog just because he's married and my uncles were single when they were petitioned. What a joke! And the arrogance with which my uncles life their lives is just appalling. They often ask why my dad works 12-16 hours a day (even though they know he is illegal) when he could just take a normal shift. Well maybe it's because he knows the value of hard work, you dumbass mooches. Sorry, I just had to vent.

I don't think we should just let anyone in because they are a family member. They should at least have the ability to make a positive contribution to this nation. Illegal immigration gets a lot of flack, but our legal immigration system is simply pathetic.

The title you gave to this thread is fitting Polish, not just for those stubborn and ignorant politicians, but also for those who benefit from our system but give nothing back.
