You can purchase healthcare insurance directly from insurance companies (individual policy) or you can purchase it by enrolling in your employer's group plan - if you work and qualify for insurance coverage at work.

For individual policies from insurance companies, you pay your premium either monthly or quarterly, depending on the plan. Young, healthy people have the least expensive premiums, so get shopping if you can. Good luck.

I have insurance through the school and only because I have to. Don't know what the usual price is but mine's around $1600 for 12 months with $300 copayment. I think it's a complete ripoff since I only used it a handful of times. I used it once because I had a stomach virus and another to get my eye exam done. Both times I didn't have to pay anything.

It promotes healthy living since you HAVE to go to the hospital to get your moneys worth but it's not worth the price tag.

i've had private health insurance since i was 20. was able to get it because at the time i was a full time student and covered through my moms work.

at the moment i pay $110 a month which includes health, vision and dental through Blue Anthem. Prices will vary depending on the coverage you want and if you pay HMO or PPO and if you want vision and dental included as well.

my advice would be, if you can, try to get health insurance through your employer, if your employed with a company that offers health insurance. If you're not employed or your employer doesnt offer health insurance, shop around for insurance.

For all of the posters here who are insured, I hope that you do not only go to a provider when you are in urgent need of care, but that you utilize your healthcare dollars and get your preventative exams every year. Super important, especially for women, get your annual exam, pap smear and HPV typing done, updates on the latest contraceptive options, as well as full lipid profile, fasting CMP, CBC, and if you are at high-risk for diabetes, as are most Hispanics in this country, Hemoglobin A1c. All plans are now mandated to cover preventative workups plus contraception.

Goes for the guys too, especially the bloodwork, BP check and if under 26, the HPV vaccine.

Got a bit carried away there, but the healthcare voice in my head kicked in. Guys, do not miss your health checkups, especially if you're insured. It's important to start young.
