They most likely won't let you lease a car, you'll probably be able to finance one though.

Based on my experience, the answer to this question is a yes and no. There are banks out there that are able to get you finance; however, if you do have the "Valid for Work Only" on your social, the bank wants to see how long your visa is valid for. Based on my experience with American Honda Finance, they would allow people to get financing up to the expiration of your visa. Because if your visa expires and cannot be renewed, obviously they think that you will have to leave the country and they will be stuck with the car with no one paying for it. That's why there's that stipulation and that is why most dealers don't like to deal with this situation.(Maybe because they just don't know how to deal with it since it's such a new situation)

^ I'll be in the processes of financing a Honda this week with my father as the main person ( he has great credit and is a PR). I will be the one actually making the payments so that I can build up my credit. I will let everyone know if I encounter any problems.

Go elsewhere. I bought a car right after high school for 36k and my credit score was at 692, just show proof of income, your interest rate may fall under a 7% since you are a new buyer in the market, but other than that you shouldn't have a problem buying a car.

@Rogue414 Okay, so what if you're not sure about your credit score? Can you still get a car? I want to get a car so I can apply for jobs. Going to interviews in bus is way too much of a hassle for me. And I'm saying this cuz I've done it consistently for about 2 years now and it's killing me! I'm looking for a car, maybe used? What is good and what isn't at a deal in used car dealership?

Btw, social is from deferred action.

Anyone else have any ideas on how to get a car as in lease or finance?

I was wondering were you able to lease/finance a car? Im currently going through the same situation. A Honda dealer didnt accept my work permit, they said they needed a "Visa" or green card. Im in desperate need of a car. Any advise on what to do?

I don't know why you guys are showing dealers your work permit. They have no business with it and don't need it. Your driver's license should be enough.
If you're in CA, and happen to be in Santa Ana Orange County CA, they are undocumented friendly and will finance even if you have no credit or bad credit. (They'll accept you without a license) Only thing they would like is a good downpayment ($1000 is good for a used car under ten thousand) and APR will be average 7%.
I can understand if you have issues with your SSN having the Work Only stamp, but even that should 't be a problem ultimately.

The dealer had assured me everything will go through, then after having the bank check for 3,000 down payment, as well as the geico insurance policy in hand, putting down 200 to hold the car, he tells me the bank needs me to show proof im eligible to be legally present here for the term of the lease (39 months). If not I would have to take a 2 year lease and put down 25% of the cars value which was about 8,000. So now the banks no longer see me as an illegal, instead they now see me as a flee risk. Great, this undocumented life never ends.
