I got a job with American Eagle in FL, but got laid off today because there were too many people & not enough hours. I didn't get hours for 6 straight weeks, first job too..So basically I wanna know where have you guys gotten hired & how it's gone for you. Any tips for a HS graduate getting a job would also be appreciated, haha!

Yeah retail will do that to you, Working at Macy's. It's really unfair how people get treated(regarding hours). On Sunday I will work the night shift after nearly 2 weeks of not being called in for work.

I'm looking for something better, and I thought I had found it but then the employer took the offer away which sucked and has set me back 3 weeks.

I'm down to work anywhere honestly..It seems like people get jobs from knowing people not really the "right" way.

There is no right way.

In this day and age you can see really see that it's who you know and not what you know. I see plenty of people who are not qualified for a position working in it.

In my opinion this really stems from companies not wanting to train anyone. Want to work a register that an 8 yr old works in Mexico? Better have 5 yrs experience since they don't want to spend 30 mins training you and showing you how to work the machine.

NO reason why those who got Daca can't get work. Jobs everywhere. If you cant find one in the town you live in, move! Or look elsewhere. Some of us lived over a decade here with no papers and had no issues getting work. Take what you can for now and keep looking for something better always.

I m currently working for Wal Mart overnight, its tough sometimes, but I get at least 40 guaranteed hours a week and some overtime. Only thing that sucked was adjusting myself to sleep in the morning rather than at night. A lot of people complain about wal mart overworking their employees, but I think it varies by store. The management at the store I work at are really nice people, plus this will do until I graduate from school. What I m trying to say is I m not complaining, after being in the shadows for so long, I m grateful that I was given this opportunity to contribute back society (albeit being a shitty job with shitty hours) with some dignity. My advise to everyone looking for a job, don't give up and try to find yourself something that is solid and guaranteed. I can't imagine not being called in for work for weeks, that is just a waste of time you could be using towards a better job. Anyways, good luck to you guys!

I don't think this is true, my brother also works at the same store I work at. When I got the call for my interview, my brother didn't even know I had an interview until after it was completed and I was told I had the job. I didn't want to get the job just because my brother worked there and he talked to a few people. It just feels so much better doing things on your own, when you have the will to work and get things done. I m not saying people here don't have the will to work, but like it was mentioned above, take odd jobs too. There is no shame in working for a decent wage. Again, good luck and I hope your efforts turn up something good.

Good advice. Sometimes the easiest thing to do is to complain, but you got to be content with that you have, and if you can, work towards something better.
