That is exactly why everyone is furious here. After one year they can apply for permanent residency while people under DACA can't. That's the difference between DACA and asylum status. For one year it's the same as DACA, but a year after they can apply for permanent residence.

Asylees also have no quotas. They got the same wait times as minor children of U.S. Citizens(2-3 months). All of them will have a green card by December of next year. Now that you're all informed you can rage harder. If you thought they just got let back in with a social security card now you know.

Why are people saying they should be getting DACA instead? DACA is for a specific group of people, the moment they leave U.S., they no longer qualify. Asylum is the only thing DHS can grant them at the moment.

And to add more to the fire...Read some comments in here of people who actually had a legitimate reason to file asylum and were denied. Now these guys went in without the right documentation and file asylum like if their life is actually in danger. Why not grant every Mexican asylum?

To make a long story short, we had an asylum case (most likely would have been granted) in the courts and had to wait months in between court dates. And now since our case is closed, we have to hope for immigration reform.
So how do you think other immigrants who followed the laws to become residents and citizens are going to feel if CIR were to pass?

From the article, it looks like of the 9:

3 are DACA people living here who did this on purpose.

The other 6 lived in Mexico who were either deported or left the USA voluntarily some time ago but would would have been eligible for DACA at least the ones who left voluntarily.

Of the 9, 7 were granted temporary asylum. I'm thinking the other two were the ones deported earlier, but we still don't know their fate.

We should make the Dream30000. We all go out and come in and file asylum, 30,000 of us.

Yeah, I was getting the same vibe. That's what a lot of anti-immigrant arguments consist of when the issue is about empathy and fixing the broken immigration system.

How is that relevant? The people here aren't angry that they were let back in. What they are angry about is asylum status. I explained above how that is the fastest path to citizenship possible outside of being born in the country. The wait time is 4 yrs for citizenship, it's not even the standard 5. It's the fastest way if you don't want to marry outside of being born in the country.
