The fact that this question is in a section where they want to know where you are from legally and that the question has a drop box listing countries which I have never heard of lol makes me believe they are asking where are you allowed to reside by law, they are not trying to trick anyone.
Below is a quote from someone on another forum discussing the same thing and this is the way I see it, but does not make me right either hence discussion. I can also see it your way and thats why I put additional info in the back section of the application.

Country of residence' if different from 'Currently residing in'.

Country of residence is the country that you are legally allow to reside for as long as you like (no temporary residence rule imposed, such as until end of your study period) and it is the most recent/current country (some people have Permanent Residence/Green Card status in a few countries).

As I said the USCIS probably knows this question is open for misinterpretation and are not going to deny on this one question.

I agree, with everyone else, that you are incorrect...

Country where you reside, or country of residence for DACA purposes= U.S.

Country of LEGAL residency= country where you are legally allowed to reside

residing= living

There is no gray area, the forms utilize legal terminology, not "gray" area terminology. country of residency does not translate to country of LEGAL residency.

Don't bother replying telling me how you're correct, cuz you're not. You're wrong and you're confusing everyone who is taking your advice for filling out their application.

It seems like people panic and come posting here begging for information but then they never update it. God forbid someone else benefit from their experience.

I know this has nothing to do with OP's post but I just wanted to let everyone know that there ARE good immigration attorneys out there who do a great job AND don't charge you an arm and a leg. Mine cost me $800 total for ALL DACA related stuff including application for Advanced Parole. I am SO happy that I chose to file with my attorney instead of risking it on my own. However, my case was slightly more difficult than normal. If you need a recommendation for a good attorney near San Francisco, California let me know.

or so he says. One case is not enough to confirm this.

Did he officially get denied? Because I got a NOID and that's the last chance to submit any evidence.
