Hello, I just read the article on the Houston Chronicle about the story of Viridiana Hernandez an undocumented student of the University of Houston. There is nothing completely new in the story, is similar to the ones we always come across but in this case it received a great number of comments, hateful comments from all kinds of people.

The cool part is that Viridiana responds on page 6 of the comments.

people complain that their children can't qualify for in-state tuition, but the "illegal alien criminals with leprosy" can. here's an idea, have your child live in said state for 1-3 years and or carry a high school diploma from that state. jeez.

the "illegal alien criminals with leprosy" can qualify for in-state tuition because they have spent X amount of years residing in the state they applied for in-state tuition.

They are so stupid LOL. I just fell out of my bed laughing lol. "Those kids receive financial aid while our kids have to pay out of pocket". If you are a US Citizen and you are paying out of pocket for college you are an idiot that obviously didn't do that great in school [I mean public schools by the way because most states have extensive programs for kids that attend the state's public schools]. In FL if you are a legal, in-state resident, you not only receive a Bright Futures Scholarship which will cover either 75% or 100% of your tuition depending on your high school grades and SAT/ACT scores, you are also eligible for a FL Access Grant which generally gives you about $2000 towards school, individual school scholarships that are predominantly for legal residents/citizens [my bf got a $4000 scholarship from UF just because he was majoring in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering] and there is also a Housing scholarship for kids that come from low-income families. Not to mention federal Pell Grants, subsidized student loans, etc. If your kids decide to go out of state for college, that's their own problem. I have so many friends that have completely full rides [they even get food money] just because they are legal. That argument is completely ignorant and laughable.

As for "send them back to their home countries", why would you want people educated here to take their education elsewhere? That's a complete waste of money to the state. Don't listen to these people; they have no idea what they are talking about.

these guys are idiot if you are a citizen, u only have to live at the states for 6 month then you qualify for instate, because i remember when i was filling out a college application that is what it required for instate tuition at least here in mass. they are just a bunch of idiots. i stopped reading comments like that because it only gives me high blood pressure lol. these people dont care about anything they will happily deport a 2 yr old baby orphaned undocumented immigrant back home because to them illegal is illegal. Guys why cant we understand illegal is illegal no ifs and no buts.

like my mom would say: "americans citizens who don't go to college is because they don't want to", there's a few exception but come on, it's so much easier for an american citizen to go to college they get loans, scolarships, grants, etc. so if they want to go to college the door is open for them so they should stop complaining and grab a book.

Like frbc said, the only reason why a US citizen or legal resident would not go to college is because she/he doesn't want to. Its that simple.
To say that you didn't have enough money and thats why you didn't go to college is ridiculous. The fact that you wanted to go to a $rivate university is irelavant. The "arm and a leg" prices for tuition in private universities have nothing to do with immigration. Just like the immigration backlog has nothing to do with illegal immigrants. It only makes sense to fix the problems where they are.
