Question regarding driver's license

So I got my DL when I was under F1 status. My license itself expires in 2011, but NYS DMV stamped this nasty sentence in red across my card: "Temporary visitor status expires in XX-XX-XXXX", which obviously has expired already. Was wondering if I get pulled over by a cop because of an accident or simply random road check, will I be taken in and shipped out?

No...your car will be impounded and you have the go to court and pay a fine of about $1,000 to get your car back. And of course you will most likely get a ticket for driving without a license.

There is a way to keep renweing it...thats what my parents did when we came here and they renew it every x years.
