Hey guys, I'm hoping someone here can help with a few questions. I'm in the process of getting a job at BofA (fingers crossed), and the next step is an Education and Employment background check.They are are VERY strict about this, and want my detailed work history with accurate dates for the last 5 years. My question is do you guys know what shows up? I only started working legally this year, everything prior to that I was either using my ITIN or was just under the table. Can they link you to a previous job just by name and address? Will it look bad for me to list employers that probably won't show up? I'm terrified and don't want to mess this up.

I just submitted my info for my background check, My problem is that I told them I wasn't terminated from my last employer and I was. My last employer uses "the work number" for employment verification and if for some reason the prospective employer cannot use this service they only disclose dates of employment and rate of pay (if I said they could). Can they find out that I was terminated?

Honesty is the best policy I worked for BofA for a few years, even helped with hiring. The background check is to make sure you're legally able to work and not a criminal, the addresses are so they can run them against your other info to make sure what theu find is really about you. Theyare strict, but if they have any questions they will ask you first. We hired a girl who didn't have papers but told us she could furnish proof of employment authorization, but had to be terminated before training was over because nothing was provided.

Thanks for the info! I was instructed by the HR department that they do not disclose that information to anyone over the phone only in writing and only to the employee! I was wrongfully terminated and am in the process of trying to fix this issue and if it is not resolved by the time I get the call from the recruiter I will inform him at that time because my conscience will eat at me if I don't.
