Hi I received my deferred action in June and i immediately applied to FIU. I was accepted and start school in the spring, but i recently found out that I am not eligible to receive aid from FAFSA. I applied to the Florida bright futures and I was recently rewarded the Florida Medallions Scholarship. I am worried FIU might not accept the scholarships since FIU gives no aid to Students with deferred action besides giving in state tuition. I called FIU and they told that i will receive the scholarship, but they told me to stay alert in case they ask for anymore documents. Has anyone received a Scholarship from the state of Florida?
How did you receive the Bright Futures Scholarship?
We are not eligible for Bright Futures, so I think there may have been a mistake with your application. DACA recipients receive NO federal aid or State Aid (in Florida AT ALL).
So I don't think it'd be a smart idea for you to accept the scholarship. It might come back and bite you later on.
