Doesn't work.
  • Deferred Action Status (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is not an eligible immigration status for applying for health insurance)

Correct. This isn't applicable to DACA recipients. I would recommend getting health insurance through an employer, however.

Though DACAers are not eligible for the exchanges, my hunch is that if you are filing taxes as a resident alien (which all DACA beneficiaries are), then you will have to provide proof of coverage. That's how it is here in MA.

There's quite a bit of ambiguity instilled in this law. More and more answers will come out in the prevailing weeks.

From what I have read we do not have to show proof of coverage or have to have coverage since they are still going to treat us as undocumented. However, when you do your taxes you have to make sure the IRS person knows that. The IRS doesn't treat as as PR's they just define you as a resident for tax paying purposes only and it has nothing to do with your immigration status. NILC has a couple of pages on it.

You need to be legally in the country to benefit from Obamacare. A social security doesn't suffice.
