Glad i found this topic. Newly approved, No job yet.. didnt really have one before DACA either. Already been out of High School for 5 years so no experience either. I'm currently 23.

My question is, How do you apply? Is it mainly online or for certain companies etc is it still normal to walk in and ask for an application? Sorry for the question, last I knew about applying for jobs was when my friends would go to places and apply back in 2006 or so. Its been a while

Also I'm thinking, due to no experience or college yet, I should start in Retail mainly i guess.

Many places you apply online, many you have to drop by and fill out an application. I would say retail or fast food would be the easiest and fastest way to get a job (I'm not belittling it) to gain some work experience.

Have you gone to college? Are you planning to?

No college yet, plan to start hopefully soon. Was hoping to snag a job somewhere first and save up a bit. Thanks!

I'm too "old" for entry level since I'm 5 years out of college, too limited in my experiences since I've been undocumented.
I'm having a difficult time too. I graduated about a year and a half ago with a degree in finance, but because of having no SSN I worked for a small low wage job. Now that I have DACA, I can't find anyone that's willing to hire me. I've applied everywhere but pretty much everyone "prefers" people with experience, not just a degree. I've even gone to agencies and they tell the same thing, that their clients want someone with experience.

I feel stuck in a catch-22; I need experience to get a job, but to get a job I need experience. I feel like getting a degree was for nothing I might have to get another low wage job because I can't be without a job for much longer.

You can offer to be an intern. Granted you wont get paid but you will be getting that much needed experience. Good luck.

I'm in the exact same boat. Once you're out of college for a while, no one wants to hire you. Thinking of going to grad school just so i can be fresh out of school when i look for jobs again but are advanced degrees even worth it anymore?

They are, but it really depends on what you want to do. A lot of people get a job first and then see what is necessary to advance. If you do go for it, make sure you get an internship though because I know when my sister had an interview she told them she had a bachelors and was planning on getting a masters and they told her that they were glad she didn't have the masters yet because they wouldn't have hired her if she had it but no real world experience.

On another note, I got a call today to interview at a wealth management firm next week! I would be doing very entry level work but it pays well and that would get me inside the company. I'm so excited
