House Democrats are planning on releasing their comprehensive immigration reform bill on Wednesday, according to a Democratic aide.

Key Democratic lawmakers in the chamber — including Nancy Pelosi, the top House Democrat; Xavier Becerra of California, and Congressional Hispanic Caucus chairman Ruben Hinojosa — have been working on a comprehensive piece of legislation in recent weeks.

In writing their bill, House Democrats are taking the Senate Gang of Eight bill, but erasing controversial border-security provisions known as the Corker-Hoeven amendment. In its place, Democrats are inserting a bipartisan border-security bill that passed the House Homeland Security Committee in May.

The Democrats are planning on rolling out the legislation at noon.

The New Democrat Coalition — a group of more moderate lawmakers in the caucus — are expected to play a major role with the House Democrats’ immigration strategy. Another congressional aide said Tuesday that New Democrats such as Joe Garcia of Florida, Suzan DelBene of Washington, Joaquin Castro of Texas and Jared Polis of Colorado will help lead the effort.

I don't know what to think about the timing of this introduction, amidst the shutdown extravaganza.

On one hand, this House-Senate ping pong, which is mostly defined party-line votes, marks the deep wedge that exists in Congress, with both sides standing strong, not giving an inch (expect CR impasse and shutdown to last for weeks and spill into the debt-ceiling). This new immigration bill, regardless of its merits, is a Democrat-led effort that will not jar well with the "step-by-step, common-sense" mantra we all know too well by now.

On the other hand, there are a lot of frustrated Republicans in the House with the 30-40 Tea Party hardliners that are driving the car (car = Boehner). Why doesn't Boehner just side with the "majority of the majority"? Because doing so will infuriate that small group of people who hold a lot of influence across the conference. This new immigration bill could provide a chance for some Republicans to break away from the chains of those 30-40 members (unlikely) but perhaps the real effect is that it will push Goodlatte and the others to introduce an alternative legislation bill or at the very least remind folks that if they can't agree on funding the government or healthcare, maybe they can agree on immigration as a way to save face.

Looks like Democrats pouncing on this opportunity to further tarnish the image of the Republicans and I don't blame them. Republicans are the ones taking and will continue taking most of the blame for this shutdown. I bet the Democrats want Republicans to oppose this CIR bill and that would further fuel this claim that Republicans are opposing EVERYTHING. Looks like more of a political move. I just don't see ANYTHING passing this Congress..CIR or any other issue..NOTHING will pass this Congress. I don't even think this government will get back up on its feet. We're in for some major economic disaster. There's going to be major outcry throughout this country. Republicans are going down and they're taking us all with them just for that top 1%.

Lets hope for the best.

First step is that they introduce the bill. Then lets see reactions and if anything will get done.

This will call the GOP's bluff on all fronts. Even if it doesn't work for immigration (and it won't), it further exposes the GOP as the hateful obstructionists that they are.

This has to literally be the shitiest congress in the history of the United States.. What are we in the 113th? All I know is they really need to reform their shit and cut the bull shit out.. I appreciate oppositions and understand each side fights for their agenda but I feel like congress works like this:

20 members, 12 vote preperoni pizza and 8 vote plain, the 8 aren't happy so they just cancel the whole party.. It's fucking ridiculous, we need every bill to get voted on regardless if the majority don't support it.. Just vote on the damn thing..

Either way I don't have much faith in this congress, maybe the next one will be better?
