On October 1st, the HR 368 changed the rules of the House such that a vote may not be called by anyone else but the Majority Leader.
The hope of using discharge petition to pass CIR is getting very slim.

That's discouraging news. Too bad they won't have the majority come elections next year.

What the fuck is this? How is this not major news? A single individual can now determine what laws even get a chance to a vote. This has to be fake.

Having a majority is a very very big deal. The only reason why the Democrats have been able to hold their own in the recent Republican blitz is that they have the Senate and make the rules there.

When the Democrats were the majority in the 111th Congress (both chambers), did you see the Democrats ever brought up anything CIR bill to the floor at all? No, not at all!

Wake up! It is not the GOP. It is the Democrats who have been preventing the CIR from being passed. The Democrats want to always keep the CIR as an ISSUE, instead of as a result! Wake up!

Did you see Senator Reid ever send S. 744 to the House? No, Reid never did that. Reid probably never intended to let the House have the bill from day ONE.

So, there is nothing that can be discharged. The Democrats want to keep the CIR as an ISSUE only, not as a result.

We shouldn't be in overwhelming favor of either party, however, keep in mind that the GOP voted in favor of defunding DACA.

In the end, you have to choose between the lesser of two evils.

Just because democrats were the majority in both branches did not guarantee CIR would pass. A lot of bills were blocked by the minority back then because GOP united for that goal. Obamacare was hell to pass for example. And I guess tackling two huge issues like healthcare and immigration at the same time would be too difficult. Plus immigrants were not pressuring as hard as now. I thinkCIR will pass once the GOP realizes they cant win a national election without the latino vote. They hope the last election for president was a fluke or momentum by Obama not democrats in general. Atleast GOP representatives in purple states want CIR like Joe Heck here in Nevada. Heck changed his mind because he knows latinos will toss him out otherwise. Unfortunately it may take several elections and a better functioning congress to get anything done . And since wecant wait the Dream act should be priority because it is the only piece that can pass if pressured enough and because even a lot of serious conservatives are fine with it
