NYU Law School’s Bickel and Brewer Latino Institute for Human Rights and LatinoJustice PRLDEF are working together on a report that will provide undocumented students, law practitioners, and community leaders with the legal tools to assist undocumented students gain admission to State Bars and practice law. We are asking undocumented law students/graduates and undergraduates to fill out a quick survey to highlight in the report the individual stories of students who this issue impacts: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1X6c...G8LUM/viewform
A number of undocumented students have already been able to enroll and/or graduate from various law schools across the country, with many more aspiring to apply in the coming years. However, the process has not been easy for undocumented pre-law and current law students. Recent high profile cases in California, Florida, and New York indicate that undocumented immigrants face several additional barriers in order to be admitted into the profession and practice law. The Bickel & Brewer Latino Institute is currently researching and preparing a report overviewing these challenges to admission into law school and the practice of law, as well as offer recommendations for law schools and state board admissions examiners. We also hope the report will provide useful information and resources for pre-law and current undocumented law students interested in attending law school.
We are requesting undocumented student (DACA recipients or not) to fill out this short survey by January 15, 2014. Our goal is to use the qualitative data to provide a resource guide on Dreamer law school admissions’ and bar admittance for undocumented students, law practitioners, community leaders, and lawmakers. All survey responses will remain confidential unless the student grants permission to use his or her name.
Please feel free to forward this survey widely to other listservs and individuals that may be interested in participating. We hope to spread the word about the issue to the widest possible audience in order to reach as many undocumented students as possible, so we greatly your assistance in circulating this message to your networks.
All the best,
The NYU Bickel and Brewer Latino Institute for Human Rights
