I had DACA for about a year before I finally decided to move out. I now have an apartment and live all my da** self. I love it! I could have moved out before DACA as even as a server I made more than enough to pay the rent but opted out as I was living with an Aunt who is more like a big sister so no problems there. I pay $705 for a 1 room apartment, the apartment complex isn't all that but my building is only a couple of years old. I do have to pay for utilities (water, gas, satellite, internet, renters insurance, etc) so it comes out to about $900 a month. At first the leasing agent was a bit skeptical because of my short credit history but then I showed her my pay stubs and problem solved. I'm thinking of getting an MBA in the upcoming year and after graduation getting a house or a condo.

I live in Texas and from my experience I wouldn't worry. I originally rented my apartment using an itin and passport. I told them I was an international student and they didn't question further. I had no face to face contact with my management till I had to pay my rent. My friend picked up my keys for me after I emailed them her driver's license since I couldn't make it in time. They weren't strict at all about leasing the apartment.

Also, get 2nd floor or higher so you don't get flooded and the chance of getting robbed is lower. Check for shopping carts- the more shopping carts in the parking lot, the shittier the apartment. Mine has zero

Good luck, I'm trying to move out of Cali, life in Cali is for the rich...unless you make somewhere between 2000 to 5000 a month! you will struggle, or if you have someone that you live with that takes care of rent and the bills....then life will be good for you, you cannot get a 1 bedroom apt here for less than 800, if you do it probably is somewhere in the less nicer part of town, but hey you never know...

Gosh, I am so excited and surprised that so many are own their own, I was a bit skeptical about moving on my own, since I do not pay for rent or any bills, just my own personal bills, and I was scared that since our paperwork is only for 2 years, what would happen after 2 yrs, but I guess it is possible, I definitely have more courage and confidence now, it is about time I take complete control and do better with my life...and stop dreaming.... Thank you to all who replied.

Unfortunately I need to find a better job where I can make a lot more money to get my own place...ok here we go, job hunting again!! Fun stuff.

Well I did have some guilt at first given that I could be saving the extra rent, etc. but then life is too short too and I'm getting at least $200 of that money back on saving on gas and toll roads. At the moment though, not getting in accidents or pulled over (let's just say my DL situation is less than ideal) and keeping my sanity are worth the price. Now if I was still in school or every bit of my money would have to go to rent, I'd hold off.
