I was wondering about those people who have opened credits using their ITIN and have yet to update their numbers to their new SSN. Could they have kept two or multiple accounts using both ITIN and SSN?

My friend is actually holding his ITIN before transferring all info and tax/credit to his new SSN. Good choice or does it not matter? It sounds like he is exploiting something here but I do not think it makes a difference.

It's illegal to use a ITIN and a SSN at the same time

That would be fraud.

First of all are you talking about Credit Cards? Once you receive SS, you must stop using your ITIN for credit cards. I suggest you write letters to the 3 credit bureaus, provide them copies of ITIN, new SS, proof of address, ID so they can transfer the credit. When you file your tax return, do it with your SS and this will rescind your ITIN.

The easiest thing to do is, to call your current creditors and tell them that you need to update your ssn# with them. Since they are the ones that furnish the info to the bureaus.

I read that I have to make a mandatory letter in order to rescind my ITIN. I did not know that it can do it automatically.

It may be but I don't think anyone can open a Credit with an ITIN alone. Am I wrong?

Did you switch it to your SSN? I just think that it may be practically convenient to have two numbers, ITIN and SSN for credits, though, it may screw up accounts and it is deemed illegal.

Having credit cards on separate numbers such as ITIN and SSN is not only illegal, but it doesn't help your credit score either. One of the factors taken into consideration for your credit score is how many different credit accounts you have. The more you have, the better it looks because it shows that you can easily be approved for credit. So there's really no benefit of keeping half/some of your credit cards on your ITIN unless you just plan on running up a debt and then going to collection with your ITIN accounts.
