I seriously don't know how she's gonna do it... She doesn't have money. But it seems like nothing will stop her. I'm really proud of her.
I know a lot of people like her, 90% give up. Med school and the process of becoming a doctor is difficult for USC and even more harder for us. Some friends of mine went back to their countries and are close to be done

Yeah the biggest Issue for me is how to pay for it. I am willing to study hard and get good grades, but its just scary to major in one thing (for ex. bio) and know that, that major is pretty useless if you don't seek higher education after college since its so generic and all. And the only reason what would stop me would me the $$$.. :/
Also, I'm not sure how the loaning process goes. I assume Credit plays a big role. I was hospitalized Aug 2012 because I had appendicitis, I got most of it payed by emergency medicaid , but since I was undocumented they didn't pay it all, like they normally would for a Permanent resident/citizen. I was 16 then and still haven't paid one bill. Would this inhibit my chances of receiving loans for school?

With DACA, anything is possible now. 2 Years ago, I would have said you had no chance.

The hardest part is financial aid, it would be mostly loans, like Loyola offers loans if you agree to work in an underserved area in Chicago. Little by little more schools are becoming aware of our existence so don't give up!
Hey I'm glad you're 100% about medical school! I was just wondering, if you dont mind me asking, when you get accepted (I really hope you do) how will you be paying other than loans? Will Loyola really be loaning over 150K? Are we eligible for any other loans?

I am pretty sure there are help financial programs for med students in our situation but I just dont know where to look. I imagine you'd have to be involved in some community to hear about them

Hey, thank you I am really nervous about this process. Well in terms of financial aid for medical school it is mostly loans, but this is true even for us citizens because scholarships at this level are just really hard to come by regardless of status. I am in the process of getting in contact with some of the students that recently got accepted and ask them some of these questions in details. I know private loans are also an option. Anyways there is a group call PhD Dreamers they have various resources, which includes internships/scholarships geared towards students pursuing any health field, and advice/support to students applying to medical/graduate school. If you are interested I recommend you join them. Good luck!

Be a doctor or whatever you want! There are ways to beat the odds.

There are many loan repayment programs for health care workers who will work for a couple of years in an underserved area.

The University of California is DACA friendly. Check out UC Davis School of Medicine - they have a terrific primary care program for students interested in working with underserved populations. Most universities have Diversity Officers who are glad to answer your concerns. Go to college websites and search "diversity" to get an idea of how supportive they are to Dreamers.
