UPDATED 3/4: GA GOP State Senators Want to Take Drivers Licenses From DACA Recipients

I said it before and I'll say it again. If you have DACA and especially if your family is undocumented still, you should pack up and go to an immigrant friendly state like California or Washington while you can travel easily. Don't sit and wait for them to take your rights away.

I'm rather surprised they are attempting this now in a congressional reelection year when Democrat's are hoping to pick up a Senate seat though Nunn and general shift in demographics as the article/blog correctly points out.

That's easier said that done when you are in a mixed status family. If I leave Georgia, I take 1/3 of my family's income with me. If my entire family moves, my mother will be unemployed and it won't be as easy to find another job making what she does elsewhere. It's easy to say pack up and move, but actually being able to do that is a completely different issue.

If this happens to pass, I guess we'll will have to make that choice then. But, my point is that when there are other pressing challenges facing lawmakers, the last thing they should be concerned with is a legally obtained driver's license.

I live in Arizona and wish I could just up and leave but I just can't. No money, vehicle needs a lot of work. So a job and fixing my Van, getting my mother her Green Card and getting my father reunited with us (not seen him since 2005) is my number 1 priority.

Being approved for DACA has been a major boost. So I'm gonna take this opportunity and run with it like mad and do the best I can to do the things I have to do. Once I achieve all that, it's goodbye to Brewer/Arpaio/brutal summers/desert sand and hello blue state/snow/rain/green grass.

I don't doubt that it's not easy but you guys are still young and if your parents were able to find job in a redneck wasteland like Alabama, Arizona, or Georgia, surely they can find work in an immigrant friendly place like Washington where they can actually get their own DL and not live in fear. Let's be honest, it's not as if they have a very lucrative job already. Maybe you have to support them for the first few months. Maybe it means you leave them for a few months and get established and then they come.

Maybe CIR will pass this year, but in case it doesn't, there is a very real chance that things can get worse. States can take away DL's for DACA recipients. I would move while the iron is hot.

My own family was mixed status too (well because of me it still is) and we all looked out for each other until one by one we got status...except for me lol.

Actually they have their own small business and own a home in Ga. Not to mention a married daughter, soon to be citizen, who also has a home and middle class job.

GA is a bit different from your run-of-the-mill Southern conservative states because of its overwhelmingly liberal city and dominant argo-business sector.

Although I can agree with you, GA outside of metro Atlanta, that is 90% of the rest of GA, is a toilet. It is, to be honest, "a redneck wasteland" replete with people labouring under very parochial views and is only compensated by the fact that there are more trees then people. I can see myself moving out, sooner rather than latter, but that only means my personal and economical circumstances are in a better place than others.

Btw, I highly doubt the proposal will be adopted, but we will see how it goes today.

Add most Northeast states to that list of "immigrant friendly" states. I can attest in particular Connecticut is absolutely awesome. Plus there's so much opportunity and jobs available too!

After my trip to Mexico. If they take it away I'll gladly return to Mexico. I'm not gonna put up with more crap.
