Hi

So I recently got promoted in my company and since my new position would require a lot of driving they offered to pay 2/3rds for the price of a new car.

However they gave me 4 choices (All sedan)

All with 2yr limited warranty service

2014 Audi A4 Premium Plus + 500 Gas/month

2014 Mercedez Benz C250 Sedan + 500 Gas/month

2014 Kia Cadenza + 500 Gas/month

Or keep my vehicle and get 1.5k gas/mileage reimbursment a month.

PS: I drive a poverty '09 honda civic that just got hit in the parking lot.

I am always wary of putting money on cars as their value keeps depreciating while their maintenance keeps going up.

Should I choose a car or just pocket the extra 1k a month?

What?? This is the first time I've heard something like this lol. What happens if you get the car and quit after a few months? If they're straight up paying 2/3rd price of the car, I would go with the Benz lol

I'm sure if they are going to be paying that much into the car there is some caveat or commitment that's required of you. Based on the type of cars you've also mentioned it seems there might be some relationship between the type of work you do and the "type" of car you drive. With all that being said if you can afford to give them what they're asking then it might not be a bad idea to accept the upgrade. Personally I don't like the idea of putting so much money into purchasing a car since they'll only depreciate. I like my toyotas and hondas (cheap and easy to maintain). I'm a dealer btw.

Suggestion: keep the 'poverty' civic and pocket the extra +1k you'll save after gas and insurance, driving it

Incidentally I drive a 08 civic, though mine is v-tec. Aside from that and newer Corollas, can't image getting anything else - except of course if your position requires you to drive a status symbol.

This is something you need to sit down and do calculations.

-How many miles are you commuting? Will $500 for gas be at least 1/2 of what you will spend?
-How much will insurance be per car?
-Which car has the best reviews?
-Which car provides the best mpg?
-How much can you keep of the 1k (after gas) if you keep your own car?

You need to think about in your own pace. I would not buy a Benz just to put 3,000 miles a month on it based on the fact they give you $500 dollars, and the average MPG is 24 with $4.00 a gallon.

Don't get me wrong, I love driving the Civic.

Very informative, Yes I will be driving from Socal-Norcal a lot. If I keep the civic 1000 will be for the "mileage" and 500 will be for gas. I already reached 65k on my car.

They gave me a contract binder that I haven't bothered to read yet. I am sure there will be a lot of restrictions and stuff on it. I was excited at first but now I am kind of treading carefully.

Yup I like my Hondas too, I sometimes laugh at teenagers buying beemers and other german engineered cars and whine about maintenance prices.

Haha preach it!
I have a cousin who has a 2005 Acura TL and one of his headlights broke. I remember he was whining for a month that he had to pay $800 to get it repaired.
