Quote:
Washington (CNN) - House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi suggested House Republicans were blocking action on immigration reform because of racial issues.

"I think race has something to do with the fact that they're not bringing up an immigration bill," Pelosi told reporters at her weekly press conference Thursday.
Referring to GOP members, Pelosi added, "I've heard them say to the Irish, 'If it was just you, this would be easy.'"

Pelosi was responding to a question about Attorney General Eric Holder's remarks at a civil rights event suggesting congressional Republicans treated him and President Obama differently than others who have held their positions. The Democratic Leader sidestepped whether she believed race was a factor in the GOP's posture, but said of congressional Republicans, "generally speaking they are disrespectful to the representatives of the President's administration, very disrespectful."

Michael Steel, spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner, didn't directly respond to Pelosi citing race, but insisted the House isn't moving forward on immigration legislation because Republicans don't trust the President to carry out the laws in place now.

"The Speaker has said again and again he wants to address the broken immigration system. The problem right now is that we have too many examples of the President not enforcing current laws," Steel told CNN.

Don't be surprised.

While my first instinct was to think this was a blunder or simply "oooh, shots fired"-kind of comment, I now think it's a calculated move to see if it'll stick and become the new thing: saying Republicans won't pass CIR because they're racists.

She did not say anything we haven't known all along, though. If we were all white or even a majority white, CIR wouldn't still be on the table.

Can someone please explain to me why Obama cant tell the House that you had a year to act. Bring it for a vote, if it passes fine, if it doesnt fine. If they dont want to do that, whats wrong with Obama issuing Executive Order?! Its not like its coming out of the blue. He can say well you didnt even want to bring it for a vote to fail (sarcasm).. I will act, since you didnt even attempt to.

She's absolutely right, and it's been like a worst-kept secret forever.

But most of us are white. We are overwhelming Christians speaking a European language as our native tongue.

We all know race has a lot to do with it but if we say it out loud, we get blamed and told "Oh I don't hate immigration, I hate illegal immigration". Of course if you ask the same person whether they support changing the laws to help legal immigration they say no and lose all credibility.
