I got my license about a month ago... I am planning on buying a car from my brother which means i won't have any car payments...i will be paying in cash...but since the car will be mine and under my name i am worried about the cost of:

1) Gas

2) Registering the Car

3) Insurance

4) Maintenance

The car i am planning on getting is a basic car...

a 2000 Honda Civic, can anyone give me about an estimate on how much they spend and about how much i will be spending...? Thanks

Which state are you in?
1.) how much are you going to drive it?
2.)depends on your state, but for 01's i would think the registration fees are small compared to newer cars. (also smog)
3.)now because you just got your license you're not going to be able to get brand name insurance unless you're willing to pay 600 dollars a month. so look into knock off insurances (be careful)
4.) again that would depend on how you drive it, and the state of which the car is in right now. Change your oil every 3k.

Well i am in Cali...Knock Off insurance???? Um what? I want real insurance so that if something happens i am completely insured...I do not plan to drive the car everyday but for necessities and some leisure...like i currently work walking distance so i probably will not drive to work until the summer when it gets extremely hot here in cali and i plan to use it to go back to school or to get another job maybe on the weekends...

Unfortunately I won't ever be owning a car anytime within the next 5-8 years lol.

The insurance alone is bullshit, and I need every bit of money going towards college.

I own a 2013 Honda Civic coupe.

1) Last time I filled up it costed me around $35. According to the mileage counter I can travel around 350 miles till empty but it changes depending on my driving.

2) I'm pretty sure you'll be paying taxes on the car when you register it.

3) Insurance is ridiculous. I pay $1000/6months. I reached one year this month so I'm hoping the rate will drop the next time I renew.

4) I don't do anything special. All I know is the car will tell me when I need to get an oil change. Also, not sure in Cali but where I live we have to get our cars inspected once a year so I know that costs money too.

Use to own a 01 civic too, first car - very sturdy and serviceable.

1) Gas - Was a two-door, got around 28-32, depending on my driving and type of travel (highway vs. town).

2) Registering the Car - Got it before the title tax was implemented in GA, ad-volurm was about 40$ annually - i forget.

3) Insurance - Depends on your age, since I am 25, was paying 40$ under family plan.

4) Maintenance - Easy to maintain, oil change based on engine mileage (i.e. 2-3k for older engines).

Got the Civic for 3k at the time, automatic, two years ago now. Was pretty clean, however, a common problem with civics of that year (01') was the fuel gauge reader would go faulty - not really a problem since the light would still flash as I neared empty. Plus, I could usually estimate when I needed to refill.

Got a 08' four door now, two-door wasn't working for me - gave the other to my 17 year old brother. Was a good car.

I just bought one not too long ago. Its a 2003 mitsubishi eclipse gts. I bought it from a rich white lady she gave it to me for 3000 even though the kbb is still around 4500. The only downside to this particular model is I have to fill it up with premium but 45 bucks still fills it up. I paid around 125 bucks total to title and register the car and I got insurance that cost me 297 bucks for 6 months. Not bad for a first car. Im looking forward to learning how to work on the car on my own
