Has anyone that gotten their DL/ID in Texas says "temporary"? is it only valid the time your EAD card is valid for? I've seen threads that CA is valid for 5 years. if this is true. that sucks! not complainting, but can we at least have some freedom where we don't have to explain why is it temporary???? anyone....?
Thanks.

I got my license in CA for five years when i first applied... and many others got it for five years too... but the DMV started sending new licenses for a period of two... i got the 2 year license after one year... they stated on the letter that they made a mistake on the expiration date... and my license is gonna expire november 2014...(september 2017 when first applied)

Yeah, Texas is one of those states that made it "well known" that it was a limited term License. It is always in Big red letters. They seem very paranoid about the expiration dates and such.

Different states are more flexible in their regulations. Like in WA the licenses are 5-6 years and in NM they can be 8 years if you pay extra.

Be thankful you have that. Texas is so strict that they refused to even renew those who had valid driver's licenses and made everybody come in and show proof of citizenship.

No one's questioned me about the red lettering so I don't think it's a big deal.

I've had the DL for over a year now and nobody has asked me about the limited term part. Most people don't even seem to notice it even if I point it out.

Yeah, I am thankful that at least they are giving us and ID/DL even if its for two years, it kinda sucks though to go renew it every two years. It does also suck for people that have had their DL in the past can't renew it, like if having a DL will make you legal.
