So I understand AP Travel can be for humanitarian reasons, and I'm curious if my great grandma would fall under this bracket? She is ill and I would like to see her. Any input thanks!

It will fall. Just make sure to establish a relationship to her (send birth certificates for your mom/dad and your grandma)

Males on average live shorter than females, I assume most uncles and grandfathers in the ailing age are already dead.

So my grandma was extremely sick. I applied in January for AP for humanitarian reasons. Sent the birth certificates, baptism certificate (that listed her as my grandmother), letter from her doctor, medical history, everything about her condition and our family relationship and all my DACA documents. Her condition worsened by mid February-Early March, I tried to expedite my request over the phone and got denied.

In a desperate effort, I went to a Senator's office to ask him to expedite request my application since it had been almost 3 months and the customer reps on the USCIS phone did not help at all and she was getting sicker by the day. The Senator's office got a response probably around 2-3 days after they submitted my request, they said that they contacted the officer with my case but unfortunately could not do anything since, and I quote: "grandmothers are not direct family members".

To put it simply: it had to be either my mother, father, brother/sister. Anyone else is not considered family for USCIS. Or that's what they said in my case. I read on here too that a lot of people traveled to see their grandparents.

Besides that, they asked me to send the documents translated AGAIN and send another doctor letter (apparently her whole medical history wasn't enough). I was rushing trying to find a translator, even got the papers notarized and everything. Overnight shipping, etc.

My plane ticket was purchased for March 14th. All of this was done by March 4-5.

Now here's where it gets interesting:

They approved my AP miraculously on March 18th (my grandmother's birthday, actually). They KEPT the AP and didn't send it to me until March 28th. I received my AP on April 1st and it expired on April 9th.

Needless to say, I did not make it and I did not use my AP.

If I were you, I'd get as much documentation as you can about your grandmother if she's sick, send all the papers notarized and translated by certified translators. If you can, send a request to expedite with the same package you're sending. If you happen to have any problems, go to your Senator's office, they get responses way, WAY faster than everyone else.

Good luck!
