Ok so a few years ago, I got my dad's permission to use his ssn
To use to get a job. I got hired and stayed employed for two years until I got approved for daca/work permit. So after I got my own ssn, I gave my boss my new ssn
And moved on with life. . Fast forward to today, my dad says irs is out to get him because taxes were not paid for those two years I was employed using his ssn... does anyone know what I should do or what might happen to me legally, any input would be appreciated. . Thanks

Do you and your father do your own taxes or do you have an accountant? You will have to pay taxes owed and I would contact your accountant or you can have your father speak to the irs and find out what they want. You need to show them that you will try paying them back or else they will start going after you. Speak to them about getting on a payment plan.

Wait. So did you or did you not pay taxes while you were using your dad's SSN?

If taxes were not paid for those two you will have to pay back taxes, interest, and penalties.

Question? Did your father file his taxes for those two years? I ask because if your father did not file his taxes and did not pay taxes, your father will have to pay higher penalties/fines........

My dad did not claim or pay those taxes for those two years. I gave him the w2
At the end of the year but again he didn't pay them. Will this cause the irs to go after me
Or my employer ??

Why would your dad pay for something he doesn't owe?

That's a problem. Question, was your dad working also when you had your job? That factors into what kind of advice I can give.

If a w2 was given then, you company usually withheld money from your paycheck for taxes, if that's the case, you need to figure out where that money went. Odds are they sent to the IRS, but since your dad didn't file a return, IRS does not know if your dad paid enough taxes, etc.

Because he generated taxable income on the SSN? The IRS's perspective is that the dad worked and didn't pay taxes, truth is the son worked under dad's SSN and dad didn't report it. Ultimately the issue is someone made money on that SSN and didn't pay taxes.
