Trust me, I would love to withdraw everything that I paid for in it. My current total paycheck deduction is around 550 per paycheck. That is 1k+ a month. Frustrating if us not being able to use it in the future is true.

I work for an accountant part-time and he advised me to pay those taxes. He said that I want to show that I have been paying taxes for future purposes. Who knows of I'll get married or am able to gain permanent status in the future.

Thanks everyone for your replies,

Yes, we are almost like F-1 students with EAD cards. I know I'm not going to marry a US citizen to adjust my status, so my sole hope for Legal Residency is DACA (where it leads to in the future).

I think I will keep the Federal tax withholding at the Single 1 Allowance rate, be exempt from SS/Medicare. Until there's more developments on DACA such as 2016 renewals.

Thanks a lot

Well they say that Social Security benefits will run out by 2041. So don't get too down about the possibility of never getting those benefits when you retire. Unfortunately this goes for everyone who's currently working and contributing to social security no matter your legal status.

Hello ! Even if you are exempt from Social Security (6.2%) and Medicare (1.45%) for whatever reason, most people find it beneficial to still contribute to this. You have to remember that all your paying into Social Security and Medicare will eventually be paid out to you once you are eligible for benefits. Yes i understand the whole benefits are going to run out in the future comments but for now i would recommend you have these taxes withhold. I am a tax professional with H&R Block, and depending on if you file a tax return or not this might have negative consequences down the road depending on who does your return and the way you file, income , etc. I know we all want to take a bigger paycheck home, but please consult your tax professional/accountant before you make any decisions on your own. We dont want any negative things to come back and bite you.
Hope this helped a little !
These are my personal opinions supported by training and tax knowledge of the IRS Tax Revenue Code - These opinions do not express those of my employer.

Hm so you're not willing to give 7% of your paycheck for 2 years, even though it might come back and bite you later on? What do you make annually? $500k?

You're making an issue out of a non-issue. I would understand if you guys were paying for 30 years + but GUYS ITS BEEN 1.5 YEARS.

SS is not going to run out. Scare tactics by the media.

At most some reduced benefits or they will up the SS tax rate.

Resident aliens are subject to the same tax laws and deductions as U.S. citizens.

If you are categorized as a resident alien by the IRS, then you are not exempt from medicare and social security taxes.

I think after everything I end up paying 22% taxes. I claim none in my we since I'll rather have more taken off than owe at the end of the year. The way I look at it is that I don't even mind, it is what it is and like the saying goes in life there are two certain things in life: death and taxes. Even going back to my non DACA days I always claim 0 and myself only come tax day. I see no reason to lie/cheat the system to make a small monetary gain
