I don't think it's such a a good idea to travel there. I would stay far from territories like that. Seems like it could be super easy to go to the wrong island

I've traveled there a few times using only a Mexican passport, with no visa stamp on it. Didn't have any problems and made it back to the U.S. mainland just fine.

Problems can occur if you take a boat ride and accidentally cross the border into Virgin Islands which are not US. You can travel there but exercise caution. Since most carriers will assume that you're a citizen or otherwise a legal resident who can re-enter legally.

Oh! My husband keeps telling me to post our experience out to St Thomas so I'm glad I found this thread before making a new one.

Before I begin, when you book a flight, it can not touch any non US soil. This is CRITICAL. Yes, you may need to take multiple flights but rather do many flights on US soil then not.

Any who, we got married back in April and then took a week long honeymoon at USVI. Flying out was a breeze. At the first airport, DEN, they just asked for my ID (used my state ID) and boarding pass. We then flew out to Atlanta, same thing, ID and boarding pass. From Atlanta we took a plane to St Thomas. At St Thomas we got off the plane, they took all of us around the building to luggage pick up. They're airport was tiny and the landing strip ends/begins, depending if you're coming or going, right at the ocean. After that we got on our bus thing and headed to our hotel.

We also took a ferry to St John. Had to buy a boarding pass and they didn’t ask for anything, just money. Be careful you don’t go over international waters or go the British Virgin Islands. Always make sure if you’re island hopping. To come back from St John we just bought another ferry pass and went back to St Thomas.
Coming back was a blast they picked us up from the hotel and we got to the airport about an hour before the flight was scheduled to board. This is where it was different and a little more complicated. Not bad, oh my god I can’t go back, just this is taking forever complicated.

We had to fill out a customs form, one per family, saying if we were bringing back alcohol, tobacco, plants, etc. We weren't sadly because the rum was amazing. I had my husband fill it out while i stayed with our luggage. It did ask for a passport number so he filled that out since he's a us citizen. Oh, bring your own pen. They didn’t have any to fill out the forms with. Once that was filled out, we waited in line so as to see the customs people. Once it was our turn, we went up, handed her the form. She asked us for passports and my husband gave her his passport and state ID because his two pictures are vastly different. She even made fun of my husband and told him he might want a new passport with a current picture. His passport picture makes him look a homeless person with his long hair and long bear. Any who, I asked if my state ID was alright since I didn’t want to use my passport and she said yes, any US ID would work. She asked us where we were from, my husband told her where he was born and that we were flying to Denver and I told her where I was born. All she said to me was, “Oh nice, it’s very pretty there,” seriously, that’s it. She then asked us questions on if we bought alcohol, plants, live animals, etc. We told her no and she finished writing whatever she was writing and we got to go on our merry little way. Well sorta, we then still had to pass through security and they asked for our IDs and boarding pass just like all the other airports and we waited 5 minutes before we started to board.

We arrived at Atlanta, got off the plane, did all the normal fun stuff at airports.

Now, don’t think I didn’t go prepared. I went with my passport, state ID, EAD, SS Card, my approval letter, everything related to DACA just in case I needed it. I did not use my passport at all, just the state ID and everything went smoothly. I was honestly nervous about the whole thing, but I didn’t need to be and I had the best week. So that was my experience.
