This is probably the most hilarious and saddest DACA story you will ever hear.

So my original EAD was set to expire on 10/25, exactly 2 weeks from today. Renewal was approved and received last Saturday, but at my home address on the other side of the country. I first scanned the EAD to my company's I-9 shared services center asking if this would suffice. They came back saying that I need to show the physical card to my home office in order to reverify I-9. So I had my parents mail it out to me via certified priority mail.

Tracking shows that it was delivered today but strangely did not post who signed for it. I thought everything was fine and dandy assuming that my landlord did it. However I came home to find no package, and according to the landlord mailman never rang the bell. I started sweating bullets and rushed to the local PO to obtain a printout of the signature. It shows that someone claiming to be me wrote my last name. I will have to go back there next morning to catch the mailman to verify who signed for it. There can only be one of the 3 outcomes:

1. Landlord did it and hid it from me (who else would know my last name)
2. Mailman delivered it to the wrong address and the person just took it
3. Mailman forgot to deliver it but had already left the premise and was too lazy to come back, signed it himself so he could clock out for the day and quietly come to drop it off tomorrow (Fedex has done it to me before)

Depending on the outcome I will be heading to the precinct to file a police report and escalate the issue further with USPS.

I sent an email out to the HR explaining my situation and see how they would handle it. Next step would probably be to file for a replacement I-765 as the I-797C for a replacement EAD is an acceptable I-9 document. However, I will be out of town on training from 10/19-24 so I don't know how I can send out the application and miraculously get the receipt within the next week with Columbus Day taken into account.

Just my rotten luck.

EDIT: Just found out replacement EAD is subject to $85 biometrics and 2 photos again... That biometrics letter is gonna be sent to my home address again and would have fly across the country to get to me just so that I can do a walk-in here. Oh fun times ahead.

Went back to the PO today and had the supervisor track the mailman down. Turned out to be outcome #3, he signed for it himself using my name and left it in the truck and took the long weekend off.
