Dear _______,

Thank you for your interest in the Military Accessions Vital to the National
Interest (MAVNI).

The MAVNI program is temporarily closed and we have not received any
official messages or publication regarding the possible reopening of the
MAVNI program for FY 2015.

Upon our receiving the official announcement of the reopening of MAVNI
program for FY2015, information will then be published on the official Army
Linguistic Facebook page at www.facebook.com/usarmy09ltranslator.

Respectfully,

Tammy Coleman, Contractor

It's been re-authorized. Give it a few weeks.

I've been following the whole topic of DACA joining the army. It seems like they are not happy that DACA are now allowed to join. I feel like DACA applicants deserve to join mavni more than anything cause we've been here longer than the so called people that are eligible to join. I hope this all works out.

You're right, I've read some of the comments from eligible immigrants and they are upset about MAVNI closing until they find a way to allow DACA recipients to join. The Defense Dept. is going to reopen MAVNI next month, but DACA recipients will have to wait until they resolve that issue; until then, DACA recipients won't be able to join.

It really sucks because if they open the mavni program witout resolving the issue with DACA, then the slots might be filled up and by the time they resolve the issue, there might not be any slots left for DACA applicants.

Well this blows. So they just said that we're eligible to join, and now, well... we have to wait while the details are hammered out. Only good thing being that there's no MAVNI until then, so the spots won't be gone by that point. Only concerning part being the security check, but in all reality, that check is bullshit. The check is given nunc pro tunc to every enlistee regardless of the clearance required by the job. Of course in order to get a job with clearance you must pass it, but anything without clearance requirement is free game (you actually do not qualify for a clearance when you enlist because its done before you naturalize, after naturalization you can seek to change into a field which requires a clearance).
Also, the part about undocumented relatives, while pentagon says no to that, the US Army (the prime user of MAVNI applicants) doesn't give two shits. Think of it from the other way, why would parole-in-place exist if there would be no one able to utilize it?

Another part being - if you're a principal of some visa category with derivatives in US, if you enlist via MAVNI you lose that visa, as do your derivatives, so all of the sudden you have undocumented relatives in US since you enlisted. If they would turn you away because of that then MAVNI would be a huge catch-22. You have undocumented relatives because you enlisted, you cannot pass the check because of them, so you cannot enlist.

Also, in all honesty - screw the other guys. They don't care the least about us. Why should we care about them? Oh boo-hoo, you need to wait a month or two to violate the terms of your visas and enlist. (You need to remember that anyone on any visa aside for holders of H, K, S, T, U, and V visas is required to have no immigrant intent, showing interest in MAVNI already proves otherwise, anyone who has expressed interest in MAVNI and is seeking re-entry into US statutory speaking should be turned away at the port of entry).

Also, they see as a threat and with good reason. We've been here all our lives. We are fluent in English, we are usually fluent in our country of origin language. The issues that exist for them (language barrier primarily) do not exist for us. Also, there's plenty of us, so they shit their pants in fear that we'll take all the spots, even though a vast majority of us are not speakers of MAVNI designated languages.

(I really hope they fix the DOD-Army fact sheets discrepancy in regards to accepted languages, as I mentioned before my language is listed on the DOD's fact sheet, but not on the Army's, also another language is in the same situation, and another is in a reverse situation - on Army's but not on DOD's. I actually emailed DOD what's up with that, but so far no response).
