Do you guys think that eventually we'll become eligible to apply for a green card?

Do you guys think that they would take away DACA from us?

Here's what I think: I doubt they will take away our work permit/ssn/driver's license/etc, because they know we intend to stay in the US forever, and at this point many of us already have well established careers here. I think that eventually they'll just give us green cards instead of having us go through this renewal process every two years.

This would require a bill becoming law, and right now any momentum is dead, Obama you've got 1 month to get this right, the time to pressure would now with his eo.

Well if the next president is a republican than most likely he/she well terminate DACA, Then USCIS would terminate your status making all of us illegal again and our work permits would be voided. They wouldn't take the physical card away but they would void it in there system so when you apply for a job and they use E-Verify they would see that the EAD card is not valid.

I don't think we Daca beneficiaries would be dropped as you stated. The next president can certainly put a stop on processing new applications. But since we do have some kind of protection it will be harder for them to uproot us.

Yeah, I think at worst we'll keep DACA as is and new applicants won't be accepted. I really doubt they would take away what we've got especially since most of us now have careers, cars, credit cards, pay taxes, etc...

The president can so take away DACA if he wanted. We wouldn't be deported but DACA could end. I remember talking to a friend about "takin away licenses" Hes was like it could never happened and they wouldn't risk million of people driving with out it. And then look what happened. Illegal aliens are paying billions into the system giving in more than they are taking out and republicans still want us out.

Now I dont believe DACA would just end like that though. But we can't just assume it's here to stay.

As others have noted, the President can't simply grant us Green Cards. At best he could issue a pardon in regards to any unlawful presence we've accumulated so that those eligible for a pathway for legalization via family or work could pursue that.

I'm optimistic that future Presidents, Republican or Democrat, won't dare remove DACA. The DHS/USCIS has a vested interest in maintaining the revenue that they get every two years when we apply for DACA extensions and so the DHS Secretary will be sure to lobby to keep DACA around for that if nothing else.

If anything I'm worried that if nothing happens in the near term we'll lose support from moderates who believe that DACA is enough. "Well, since they can work now do they really need another legal status?"

I don't think DACA would be taken away, otherwise it would happened to TPS recipients already if it was the case, and they have gone through republican, and democrat presidents...

Many people from my home country (including my dad) received TPS back in 1998, because of the worse hurricane in Central America's history during that year.
