story time, bear with me...

I've been in the US for over a decade illegally, pre 9/11, from southeast Asia, Chinese, US born kid, never fingerprinted, in my 40s, so no daca. Waited for imi reform that never came until non citizen wife threatened to leave us if we do not leave the US

I listened to her, we packed up and left 3 yrs ago. She left me anyway. For the past 3 yrs I've had severe depression and contemplated suicide many times. Well, still do.

Now Obama decides to give reprieve to people like me who have been around more than 5yrs and have a US kid. Only problem is I'm no longer in the US. The irony. I could try and get a visa and reenter as tourist and since I've never been scanned, chances are not too bad. However, that doesn't get me included for the new Obama thing since I left.

So it seems my only chance to still have a life is to somehow enter the US illegally. Not sure how to do this, as I don't speak Spanish and I don't look it. I know it takes money and i have some. I guess I will fly to MX sometime next week, get to nogales(?), and throw caution to the wind. I would appreciate some advise but please don't tell me to "keep my chin up", " find another life in Asia"...I figure the alternative of suicide makes this route more productive. At least I died trying.

I need to get back so I can build a life and provide for my US born child.

Anyone know a guide...a friend...a good soul that can help me in any way?

Damn that is rough. My cousin is going through a similar experience, US born kid, left about 6 years ago. He wants to try and come back, but the border is just too hot try that anymore. You found yourself a keeper... :\

There's more to life than being in the US. If you're suffering from depression and thinking of suicide, get proper help, not immigration help bro. You're not thinking clearly currently and jumping to conclusions impulsively as is seen in suicidal patients. "I'll die if I don't get this girl.""Ill die if I don't get into this school"etc.

To all those contemplating hopping the border, here at DAP we highly discourage that. Not only is this dangerous, they need proper documentation of the last 5 years in the US which you won't be able to produce. I'm not talking about a facebook picture with the Statue of Liberty, need proper documentation as in bank accounts or education records, receipts, etc.

Well, think of differently, suppose you had stayed and DAPA never came to be. What would you have done then?

To qualify for Deferred Action you need to have been in the US since Jan 1, 2010. It offers deportation protection and that's it. There is no way to get a green card through deferred action.

You are in a better position to qualify for a visa since you have no record of any deportation or Order of Removal and you've entered before the implementation of the visa entry-exit check system. Research the different types of visas available to you. If you can, try as best to obtain the H1-B visa, especially if you have any experience with technology or health.

We here at DAP do not condone crossing the border in an attempt to obtain an immigration benefit that 1) you do not qualify for and 2) can disqualify you from a future immigration reform. If the Senate Immigration bill passed tomorrow, you would qualify for it living outside the U.S. But if you entered today, you would not qualify since you had to be present since Jan 2013.

There are also other countries that have an easier immigration process such as Canada, UK, and Australia.

Steam, I am sorry to hear about your story. I know it is difficult to go through depression, as I almost went through it myself but managed to overcome it.

I would say find another place to go to. Your desire to come to the U.S. hinges on the idea that this place is the ideal place to be, when in reality it may not be. Things change all the time and nothing is guaranteed. I hope this helps.

I don't know why you're so upset and depressed. You came here illegally as an adult. Nobody made you come here or force you to stay. You had no legal right to be here and you made the choice to leave. You were only in the US for 15 years (I'm guessing) of your adult life. You have no record with the immigration service here and you want to ruin it by trying to come here illegally? Are you prone to making poor decisions?

If you have a kid who's a citizen, and you have no immigration record, just wait till the kid is 18 and he/she can get you a green card and you can come here with honor through the front door. If you get caught at the border (assuming you live that long in Mexico), you'll likely never get to come here legally. I might sound rude here, but people like you will only help prove the Right Wingers right when they say "See! See! You see what happens when you give amnesty! Everybody else starts coming in to get in on it!".

edit
Regardless, this is life, we all have problems. Many others have survived bad relationships and other problems and things do get better.

TC, shit happens.

For example, many of us on here and many immigrants and people in general don't have health insurance.

You do realize that all we have to do is break a bone, catch a serious illness etc. and we either have to choose to go bankrupt trying to keep ourselves alive via healthcare we have no insurance on or accept death (or a broken body) and deal with it.

I am saying this so that in your darkest hour, try to understand that whatever happens...happens...

If I was you,I would stay away from crossing the border illegally through Mexico because the drug cartels now control the human smuggling trade. It could potentially be dangerous for you those people have no regard for human life. They are the kind of people who will take your money and shoot you for no reason
