I live in texas and have been trying to buy a new car. I had a Us Citizen co-signer apply for a loan with me. First the loan company had to verify my SSN for some reason, and then they asked for the EAD. After that they gave me a call back and denied me for not being a "resident". What are my options from here? I know many of you have bought and financed cars of your own. It's a $20k loan, and I would have been approved if not for this problem. I thought all you needed was a good job, good credit, ID, and SSN.

Anyways thanks!

When it comes to loans most companies when they find out that you're not a resident then they react as if you would leave them tomorrow without paying the loan.

A way around this is to only bring your ID to the dealership and just give your ssn when asked. There are no questions about citizenship, so instead of focusing on your status, they'll only focus on your credit history

I agree with malign0n. A few months ago I just took my license and I was approved for a used $21, 600, loan from a subaru dealer. They never asked me anything. The interest rate was quite good. I ended up not buying the car though.

Hey thanks for your reply! I totally agree. All I initially gave the dealership was my I.D and SSN to check credit. Eventually the loan company started asking for more information. They actually wanted to see the original SS card and I had to show it to them. Then they got around to asking for my EAD and that's when the said they couldn't do the loan. I was very suprised because I had a US Citizen co-signer with a house and two cars on his report.

Wow, was it from the bank itself? I really dont understand whats going on with my situation. Why would they need additional info anyways? For some reason they asked for the original SS card after they had my number and pulled my history.

Sorry to hear that. It sounds like they're having a problem verifying your social to your credit history. If you had an ITIN and credit history associated with it, then it takes a while for the history to transfer to your social. OR it could be that your social is still new that it's still not registering. Some others on the site are having those problems

Got my social back in 2012 so maybe. The credit history isn't long but they were still able to pull it. Either I might have to wait a while to get this done, but I was really hoping I could get the car I wanted.

The issue with this and this is coming from what my friends have experience is that dealers are now paying attention to the LIMITED term in the cards, and wonder about that.

There should not have been a problem especially if there was a US citizen co signer. Did the the co signer have a job and good credit?

It also depends on the dealership, and who is financing you.
I just recently finance my second vehicle, no co-signer needed.
