Hey guys,

My work permit expires on 03/04. I applied a few days short of 120 (definitely learned my lesson). I'm coming to the sad realization that I will not be approved in time. I've tried contacting my senator and ombudsman but if doesn't look like it's helped.

I need to accept the situation and plan my action items.. I work for a medium sized company, owned by a really large one. I have 2 HR managers who report to HR of the bigger company. None of them have approached me about my work authorization expiring and I haven't briught it up yet.

My question is, for those of you who took leave of absence, how did you go about doing it? This is not something I can talknto my manager about because the comoany is very structured (everyone has a manager and probably is a manager of someone else). I don't know if HR can keep this private and I can just tell my manager its for personal reasons. Any comments/opinions?

For those of you who have expired or are close to expiring, what have you don or will do?

Omg I'm on the same situation. I work in a mid size company and the structure of your working environment is similar as mine.

I'm really scared and I don't know what to say. If I talk to the HR, somehow my manager needs to know and the higher people in my team as well. I don't want them to know that I'm under DACA except the HR would probably know by now as when I got hired they asked for my passport and I told them that I don't have one.

When does your permit expire? Has your HR already asked for your renewal?

Also, has your HR confirmed your manager(s) need to know? UGhhhh that's what scares me, I believe this is all at the discretion of HR but we should be entitled for some privacy, at the same time, I would imagine any manager would need to give some sort of approval for a LOA.

I work for a very large public company, but the HR lady didn't know that I was under DACA as she asked me a few weeks after I started whether if my work permit was work or family sponsored. I've started to plant the seed with close co-workers that I'll take a vacation around when my permit expires so that I don't get embarrassed. I'm assuming it'll be for 4 weeks as most people here are seeing that it takes about 6 months for renewal. I've accrued enough vacation as well if it comes down to it. Federal government efficiency at its best folks

Mine expires on 3/10/15 I was informed I cannot take a leave of absence, so I m putting my two weeks notice and I ll be out of there on 3/8/15. It sucks, but i know it isnt the only job out there for me. Plus I saved up all my vacation time and have a decent lump sum of money to live until I get renewed; plus my employer has to cash me out on my enormous amount of time and vacation lol. $$

They placed me on a leave of absence once I passed the expiration date. Since I was in the middle of some projects, I kept working on them (unpaid) and wrote down the hours. I am now taking a vacation using those hours.

The HR reach to me to provide my renewed EAD prior to expiration otherwise I will have to be taken out from their payroll. I just told them that it's on the process of renewal.

When you guys talk to the HR for the Leave of Absence, do you guys disclose the whole situation of being under DACA? Because when I applied to the company, they asked if I have a passport and I told them that I don't have. SO probably they figured out that I'm under DACA. Anyone?
