Hi guys,

I was recently approved for DACA and received my EAD in the mail. I went to the social security office to get a new card (but the same number, the old card said not valid for employment). I was told I had to wait 5 days-2 weeks for the new one. I pray that it gets here sooner.

Anyways my question is...when can I start applying for jobs. I know what my social is going to be because it's going to stay the same. Can I apply now? Most employers will either not look at an app or it'll take a while.

Thoughts?

I think you could start applying now since you already know your social security number.

Most firms require you to fill the I-9 form on the orientation day if you're offered a position. A copy of your valid EAD is sufficient for the I-9. You don't need to submit a copy of your social security card.

Yeah I know the number i'm just waiting on the card that says valid with dhs approval. FYI fun fact I learned that a person is only allotted ten replacement cards in their lifetime. Does anyone know if you have to go or even get a new card when you do your renewal?

No. You won't get a new social card until you become a permanent resident. Which they will get rid of the DHS languAge
