Hello guys,

This is my first time posting on this thread, but i have spend sometime reading through the forums. I recently got into a MED school. It's actually an osteopathic school. Now the dilemma is that they are saying that i must be a U.S citizen or permanent resident to enroll completely. Im a DACA recipient, i have told them that. Now what can i do , any suggestions please. It been my dream to go to this school and get into Medicine since i was a child. Any recommendation will truly be appreciated.

P.S : Im from New York and the school is in New York also.

Thank you

I would suggest talking to your school's registrar and Financial Aid office honestly about your situation and see what they can do. Speak to the school president even, if you can. My sister faced a similar situation, where she got into Med School too but no US Citizenship/green card. She was able to get admission but couldn't enroll due to financial aid issues. I would suggest you look into that as well. you may somehow be able to get it but Med School is very costly and I'm not sure if DACA recipients can get Federal/private loans without a US citizen co-signing..

I tried speaking to admission, but I'm going to try to get in touch with the schools president. It not due to the finical aid, they are saying I'm not allowed admission due to my immigration status. I do have an uncle who is a citizen, that willing to co-sign for my private loan. I was also thinking of going to my local senator to talk about my situation, its a private institute. Would you think that would help ?

You should definitely give it a try but to be honest I'm not sure how far that will do. Most med schools don't differentiate between DACA and international students and usually don't accept international students. But there is no harm in trying!! maybe you'll be the exception to the rule

Try Discover private loans with a U.S. cosigner. They allow that. I have asked them. Had like an hour long conversation with them about it. They accept you if you have a U.S. cosigner. Yes, the interest will be a lot but it is a way to pay. You can pay during school, as well.
