Hello everyone

I just have a question regarding FAFSA. I curruntly work for my company which has 1199 as a union. Through our job we are able to go back to school and be reimbursed for it. What I want to know is that apparently it is a requirement to apply for FAFSA prior to applying for reimbursement. They said that even if you do not qualify for any aid they still want you to apply, I guess it is part of their formality in terms of paperwork.

Now my question is, will I not be elegible for tuition reimbursement due to the fact that I literally do not qualify for FAFSA?

Thanks for your time

It's true that although we do not qualify for Federal financial aid through FAFSA. But I had to apply for it in order to get aid from my university.

The information that is given in the FAFSA verifies key pieces of information that your employer (or my University) uses to calculate your "need" for scholarships or in your case tuition reimbursement.

My union 1199 basically just wants evidence that I applied for FAFSA, irregardles of if im qualified of it or not.

So Malignon, I can legally apply for FAFSA though right? Even though I have information that I know I won't be qualified?

Yeah. You can apply. Under Citizenship status you would have to put "non-eligible non citizen".

Like I mentioned before, although we do not qualify for federal money. Private businesses or institutions can still use the information to give us aid. Some states even give us aid through the FAFSA or through their own form like the Texas Application for State Aid (TAFSA).

Hey dude335 thanks for replying, I am planning on going to SUNY downstate in Brooklyn, I know I won't get any FAFSA and I really am hoping I can get the tuition reimbursement from my union. Looks like I'll be missing the deadline this year and so I will most likely just apply for next year.

Reading their requirements I am a little alarmed at what they posted
http://sls.downstate.edu/admissions/...ns_MI_2015.pdf
#5 On the first page they clearly state that an EAD, SS #, and or DL will not be accepted.

I'm not quite sure what to make of that
