Hey all,
I just spoke with an admissions rep for this college and I was speaking to them in regards in applying to one of the master's program they offer there.

They straight up told me if you don't have a valid visa you won't be eligible to apply. Is that straight up legal?

that's straight up not true

it sounds like they want to treat you as an international student, and those do need valid visas to apply. Tell them you're not applying as an international student and that you shouldn't be considered one.

If you have DACA and have been in the US/state for a while you shouldn't be considered an international student. Also, if you graduated from NYS high school you would qualify as a NYS Resident for tuition purposes.

i applied to a few SUNY schools and went to one..

Yep. A school that applied to treated me as an international student. I'm not paying 30K for their stupid program.

Yea that's the issue, I think they are treating me as an international student on the sole basis I cannot provide them with a permanent card. I don't know if it makes a difference because technically SUNY Downstste is a medical college and they do offer other programs such as the medical informatics masters program, I spoke to several admissions rep and I was just getting so frustrated. I honestly don't think they have any clue what deferred action is and the last rep I just got so fed up with and I just said well I don't have a valid visa its expired so wth do you want me to do, I can't apply for a program because you don't have a valid visa?!?!?

They said something along the lines of because it's not an undergraduate degree some colleges require you be a legal resident like wtf?!?!

Idk for any of you who went to a SUNY can you all point me to someone or some # to call to get more information.
