Hello,

I am trying to apply for Advance Parole for Humanitarian reasons, my mom is sick and I really have to go and see her. I want to know if it is required or recommended to hire a lawyer for the process? I talked to a lawyer a couple of days ago and she told me that I could do it and that there wasn't going to be any problem at all, I just don't know if I should have her send all the paperwork just to be on the safe side.

Also, when translating the documents, does the translator have to be certified (if there is such thing) or can it be translated by someone who fully understands both languages?

Lastly, for those that were approved for AP, what documents did you send in your packet?

Please someone help me with this.
Thanks

paongnt, as far as I read online, the process is very simple. It's just the travel document application you get the application here: http://www.uscis.gov/i-131
A couple things I Saw people were sending is of course that required form, a picture of your current ID like a driver's license, a photo copy of your passport, the payment of $360, and in one section, it allows you to provide reasoning why you want to go, it also says you can write on a separate piece of paper (letter) if it doesn't fix in the space on the application.

Hey guys! So I recently came back from my trip with AP and was paroled into the country. My question is, is it normal to be paroled only for a day? Can one still adjust status if the parole is expired?

Yes, it is normal to only get paroled for a day via DACA.
Yes, you can adjust status afterwards. Only thing you need is a legal entry, not any kind of legal status or legal presence in US.

FROM DACA TO GREEN CARD --

I wanted to post because this forum was very helpful when I decided to go through with the process of traveling with Advance Parole. I am Colombian and was in the US for 20 years before applying for AP. I was a DACA recipient and applied for the Advance Parole for Humanitarian reasons. I did all the paperwork myself without a lawyer. I traveled from JFK to Cali and back. Had no issues at the airport in NY. I had some issues in Colombia because they had no idea what my AP paper was and were wondering why I didn't have a green card. But after they called the manager they confirmed that it was ok for me to travel.

So, I sent my application for the AP in December 2014. I traveled in February of 2015. I am married to a US for 4 years already. I sent my application for the green card immediately after I came back. I got my PERMANENT green card a few days ago. yay!

Good luck with your traveling plans and hopefully you can adjust your status too.

Also, I submitted all translations and certified their legitimacy myself. Check out this website: http://www.uscis.gov/forms/forms-and...ations-mailing

I just added the clause at the bottom for "Certification by Translator" and signed it myself. I did this for my green card application as well. It's fine.

Thank you for your comment.

I just sent my application today. My friend certified that she was my translator and I did all the rest by myself. Hopefully everything turns out ok.
