If student, try for capital one journey, I was insta approved in seconds. Some people have luck with discover it. If all else fails do first progress. One user says "they literally approve everyone." Or just do any recured card at a bank - you don't need to actually bank with most banks to get a secured card from them.

My route capital one journey -> one year later AmexEveryday

Its really not that hard.
Whoah! I feel like I have been duped. I signed up for a checking and savings account withWells Fargo back in 2013, then 3 months ago I applied for their secured credit card with my tin. They told me I would be upgraded to a regular credit card after 9 months to a year. Would canceling the card affect whatever little credit I've built on it? Its only been 3 months

A quick search yieled this https://www.creditkarma.com/question...ed-credit-card

Here are my two cents.

In your CreditReports, which you can request for free once a year at annualcreditreport.com (this is through a federal program, not an advert ) shows the dates of inquiries. So anyone who is doing a detailed examination of when your account was opened will know the date of inquiries.

However, from what I've seen, the algorithms care less about exact date and care more about a range. Here is an example of my rating with TransUnion.

The numbers above are a range of years of your oldest credit line

With that said, however, If you were to go for an unsecured one now, or even at 6 months I don't think it would be a real setback in the grand scheme of things, given how the agencies rank age of credit history (I'm assuming Experian and Equifax do something similar, but I don't have first hand experience).

Take this with a grain of salt, as this is guess work. But getting unsecured through someone else and canceling with wells now or even within the next year probably won't affect you much.

Thanks! I have been trying to find more excuses to ditch WF, Just been too lazy to apply elsewhere. They nickel and dime you for everything. I have their Way2save checking account which I have to keep a balance of $2,000 or 10 transactions monthly to avoid fees, plus I had to open an additional savings account with them that carries a monthly minimum balance of $300. They claimed without an tin or ssn they could not sign me up for just a checking account. At the time it was fine since I needed a new bank account, but I have an Itin now and I'm just over it with them. I've been hearing positive things about credit unions, so I might just get an account with one.

Yeah, I banked with Wells as my primary for years. Now I just have one active joint account with my mother - I do all my banking with Charles Schwab now. Absolutely no nickle and diming or product pushing. I defo recommend them or a well recommended credit union - I know a guy who refuses to leave his Virginia based CRedU despite being in another state now.

I got it in one shot. I applied a year ago for the student CC and got approved.

The easy way....if you are a college student, citibank gives a student credit card with a good credit limit.

Second, secured credit card with also citibank that you can deposit $200 or more and get a credit card.

OMG , guys please get more information, talk to your bankers!!!!!
Wells Fargo offers secured credit cards, one of the few banks who do, aside from credit unions, I work for them, so I know how their system works. IT is always better when you apply for a secured card first because then you are proving to the credit bureaus that you can handle the credit line. I can honestly tell you that I have made applications for a bunch of ppl, undocument, with only ITIN, with no ITIN, with a new SSC and with DACA.

Yes I know most big banks suck...blah blah blah but I work for one , and I have seen a lot of DACA ppl who have been approved for secured and unsecured cards. Wells Fargo is one of the most conservative banks when it comes to credit and loans ( Which means it is more profitable for them when the risk is lower).

If you got a letter and it explained why you didn't get approved it is probably because your profile or the information the banker provide had an error or was false, either way you can always go back to the banker and ask what other information do they need. If you have DACA and no credit, you have to start with a
secured card, after 6 moths you can apply for discover or capital one unsecured. You can also apply for a store cc. JCpenny, Victoria Secret...be careful with that ones, those have a higher interest but are more likely to get approved. After a year if your WF secured card hasn't converted you can call, or reapply for an unsecured one. Also try to check your credit- Past due payments, rent delinquencies, hospital bills do affect your credit!!!!

The way I did it.
I always had my bank account with USbank, and when I got my DACA I went to put my SSN and told them I wanted to apply for a cc- they were my first credit card for 800 dlls. After 6 months I applied for the Discover IT and 3 months later I applied for CApital one. I never once got a secured card. I haven't applied with wells fargo because i have too many credit cards now and my plans are to pay them off and try and get a mortgage.

But I will tell you, If you had an ITIN and you had a bad record with it, that will transfer to your SSN.

In the end I did get a credit card through Capital One, the only bad part was that they gave me only a $500 credit. But it's better than nothing before I had a credit score of ZERO.
