Hello, I looked at the other post about MAVNI but this is totally new for me so I wanted to created a new forum for myself and those who are alike me.

So, I am 25 yo male, finished bachelors in 2013 and was preparing for grad school but I don't know how would I get a loan in first place and wasn't sure I was able to get licensed if I do indeed finished the grad school program...

I know I should have applied right away when I received the DACA few years ago but here I am today...

Choices I have is US ARMY for now because recruiter center is really close to me... so I will visit them tomorrow without appointment and
1) WHAT SHOULD I BRING??
I know I will be taking my ID/SSN and that's it but should I take WORK PERMIT as well?

2) WHAT IS EXPECTED MEETING WITH THE RECRUITER?
Do i have to take the practice exam for AQFT? I am a horrible test taker...

3) ANYTHING ELSE?
My buddy of mine is currently serving in the Air Force and he told me to NOT ENLIST but join as a officer since I have finished university and stuff..

thanks to all

If you did end up joining through MAVNI, you would have to come on as enlisted; Only US Citizens can be officers.

1) You should bring SS card, EADs (all that u have), Passport, state ID, I-94, HS diploma, College diploma.

2) Yes, they will ask you to take the practice exam which is about 35-45 minutes depending on your speed. It's the math and english sections. No calculator usage by the way.

And oh, what is SSBI??

Everybody have hard time there... My parents are undocumented as well... my friends don't know that I am undocumented... is it like hardcore security check?

I find it difficult to have follow-ups with my post as well, so I'll help you with a bump. I'm pretty curious about MAVNI as well...

1. ID, SS card, EAD, DACA notices, passport, etc. If you think about something and the answer is "maybe" then take it. Worst case scenario you carried the extra 10 grams of paper for nothing.

2. The first meeting is easy. They will give you a practice test and see how you do. Recruiters are generally very nice since they are the ones to get you to sign up. I didn't personally continue past that step.

3. You can't use MAVNI to become an officer directly. You'll do the ASVAB test, run you through SSBI, if you pass through it eventually they'll take you in for basic, you get through basic, naturalize, get your parents parole in place (if needed), sponsor them for permanent residency, then you can seek to get into Officer Candidate School provided you'll be eligible for secret clearance so you'll likely go through the SSBI again, which is why you'd need to sponsor your parents, undocumented family members are a red flag.

SSBI is a security screening given to people applying for top secret clearance. You don't need to pass it completely as you're not able to anyways, but if they find something wrong with your record they'll rescind your contract.

Does having undocumented parents really affect the SSBI for the initial enlistment?

It most likely won't. But it might be an issue if you'll want a clearance for whatever reason down the line.
