Steps after getting work permit via spousal petition

Hello, my mother received her work permit today, she is being petition for by her husband. I have it understood that once you get a work permit your next step is to get a social security number. Her Work permit is on Category C-9. Her lawyer has told us that she cannot get a social security number yet, but my better judgement tells me that he's full of bs.

Make sure that this guy has an AILA certification. You have all kinds of idiots who barely passed the bar get into areas they shouldn't touch.
