Good morning everyone,

I have been a lurker on here for many years, right now it's 2:35 a.m. and the urge came through me to make an account and share a story full of ups and downs and which may make some of you mad. I came to the country at the age of 4 and overstayed my visa I'm now 24 years of age. Fast forward to 2012 I received DACA for 2 years till December of 2014. As soon as I received my daca my life changed I applied for a hospitality management job in a casino that I thought I would never get with the amount of experience I had at that time. My interview went amazing and being being bilingual like a lot of us here helped tremendously. I got a call a week later from the director of casino operations who interviewed me offering me the position. I would be starting at 45,000 a year. I was 22 at the time and I couldn't have been happier this was the job of my dreams and I had only worked under the table in the past at a pizza place in the summer and later on as a custodian. During those years though of working the low paying jobs I was able to obtain my BA in hospitality management. Anyways back to 2012 after gaining this new position only weeks after getting my daca you can imagine how fast my life changed. I used to always have to ask friends for rides to parties or to just hangout the list goes on, or have to pull out my passport at places that required you to be 21. This all changed in a matter of weeks and it seemed to just be getting better.

A couple months into the job I was able to buy a brand new Nissan Altima, I felt on top of the world. I continued to focus on improving my life and making sure I excelled at work. Now it is 2013 a year into my job and I was called into my bosses office for my annual evaluation. I had been going over the top at work every day staying extra hours, helping coworkers, showing interest in learning new things, I joined many of the casinos clubs for community out reach and volunteer work. At the age of 23 I was the youngest in my department and obviously the most hungry. My boss noticed this and offered me a promotion to shift manager of my deptarment and it came with an extra 10k per year. Again I felt like I was unstoppable eveytbing just kept going right for me. Later that year the day was December 23rd 2013 my boss invited me out to for drinks after work with her and others from the department. I accepted the invitation not knowing it would be the beginning of the end of my happiness. I drive to the bar and hour later after having 3 beers I made a terrible decision and decided to drive home. The drive home from the bar was about twenty minutes and at the time I thought I had drank enough water while drinking that I would be fine. I took the highway home and 5 minutes from taking the exit to my house I was rear ended by another driver. My bumper took some pretty heavy damage, but the lady that hit me her car took considerable damage to the front. The whole front hood was bent and headlights shattered. The first thing that ran through my head was "wow she rear ended me this is her fault" I became totally oblivious to the fact that I had been drinking just a half hour ago. The lady asked me if we should call the police and I said yes in retrospect this was extremely stupid of me. So to make this story go by quicker te cop shows up and says he smells alcohol coming from my breath and ask if I have been drinking. I didn't want to lie to him so I told him I had a couple beers and then drank some water waited for a bit and drive home. He told me he would be doing some sobriety field tests on me. Next thing I know he tells me to put my hands behind my back and that I was under arrest for DUI. This all happened around 3 in the morning around the same time as I sit here and write this post. So my car gets towed, I have my gf pick me up from the police station that same night, we pick the car up later that day. I try to find the best DUI attorney in town my BAC was .08 (for reference I live in New Jersey) my attorney manages to reduce the amount of time that I have my license suspended to three months, no jail time, less fines. This sounded great, but all along I knew this would come back to haunt me when reapplying for DACA. Anyways fast forward to December 2014 my boss says u fortunately she has to let me go because I have failed to provide an extension of my work authorization. During that time I also tried to work with the best immigration attorneys from my area to see if there was a chance of erring approved even with the DUI. Ultimately after a long wait and a couple RFE'S I was denied. A couple months later early 2015 during a snowstorm I totaled my car and slammed head on to a tree. The incident was ruled a accident due to the weather conditions, and my insurance company paid off the remaining car loan and gave me some after, but not newest enough to buy a new car. A month later my license expired, fast forward to today it's been almost a year since I sta down working in the office living the dream. I have spent the last year basically being a unproductive piece of shit, I moved back in with my mom and have been here since. Everyday that goes on I feel like w complete disappointment I literally threw my life away over a few drinks.

I want to just say I'm sorry to all the dreamers for giving you guys a bad name and being a bad stastic I know that I deserve the consequences and what has happened to me. I have no one to talk to about this other than you guys and I hope you guys will try to understand the mistake I made. I'm sorry I let you guys down, and I'm sorry for giving us a bad name. I wish to ask for forgiveness from you guys and hope to one day make amends for all of this. As for my current situation it's pretty fucked I owe a considerable amount of money on several credit cards and elsewhere. I would say the DUI ruined my life, but in reality I ruined my life. If anyone knows if there any other legal options for me or would like to talk through pm please let me know. Once again I'm sorry guys Also I'm sorry if there are grammar mistakes, or spelling mistakes I typed this on my iPhone while laying in bed and just wanted to get this off my chest.

You know what's fucked? Here in Arizona, I've known people how have gotten work permits after a DUI. Not through DACA, though. And it's just because they have kids here. What kind of bullshit is that?

What you think the country is going to take care of those kids?

Let TCs story be a lesson all of you who take DACA for granted

Thanks for sharing your story. People deserve second chances but we are dreamers are in a position were we must tread lightly. Feel bad for you but such is life.

Marry a USC, become a permanent resident, get another job, save, spend wisely, learn from your mistakes, get your shit together, stop making excuses and continue with your life. You still have a great opportunity, all you need to remember is that you are alive and no one can take that away from you.

Don't know if you're being sarcastic, but they very well knew that before they got behind the wheel.

Did you try to get your DUI expunged ? I got a dui in 2007 got my dui expunged in about 2013, and got approved for daca in 2014. I worked with a criminal immigration attorney. I know I made a mistake too, but my lawyer did a good job in putting together my case.

Sorry that happened to you but while you made a mistake, it shouldn't be something that will ruin your life and you certainly have to forgive yourself. This sort of thing goes on all the time where people have a few drinks and feel fine and drive but their blood alcohol level is at or above the law. That's all it takes, but sadly for us, it can be devastating so I hope people here learn from this.

Also, as you pointed out, calling the police after an accident is not always the best option especially if your car had minor damage and/or you're not in the best position. Myself 14 years ago or so had a bad day - my gf at the time had broken up with me and I was riding in her car with her driving while I tried to figure out whether this was real (it was...) and BOOM! someone rear ends us. She insists on calling the cops for the minor damage and the girl who hit her got a ticket.

After I'm dropped off in my car and am driving off in a bad mood and trying to change some lanes to u-turn under a freeway, boom,a truck side swipes my car. It was a painter who was pretty pissed at me because he thought I was in his lane even though the traffic had stopped already and he just didn't want to let me in after the fact...so my blood sugar was low, I had just been dumped for real, and I've been in 2 accidents within an hour so I thought shit, I'd just call the cops to settle it. I still had a state DL.

The result, I got a ticket for failure to stay in my lane and the other guy got two tickets for no license and no insurance. We all lost.

You asked for legal advice and as I'm not a lawyer, I can't offer any but here are your choices

1) self- deport back to your country of citizenship
2) work and live in the US as an undocumented person
3) fight the charges. Do thorough research, find the best crimmigration attorney (lawyer well versed in crime and immigration) and work on having the charges expunged etc. A good attorney like the one the OP in this thread hired will be able to help you overcome this hurdle.

Before you decide on a course of action and implement it, you should also seriously consider whether or not you should drive again. 2 serious accidents in as many years indicates lack of maturity, judgement or skills and all are needed to operate a vehicle safely.
