i am getting ready to start my applications to transfer from cc to 4 year schools. and the only feasible way that I see is using my US citizen sister as a cosigner for loans. I am going to be looking for private scholarships but there just isn't a lot since we are unable to claim many due to the US resident requirement. Have you talked to the financial aid department to the school you are transferring to?

Find a job that gives tuition reimbursement. This paid off CC and now I am attending a university. Currently, I have no debt thanks to my job.

If you don't work for a company that offers reimbursement, apply to as many scholarships as you can find, and try to pay out of pocket as you go. Its definitely better than taking out private loans and ending up with a ton of debt.

Also, find out if you can take more classes at your community college that will transfer over. At first for my degree I thought I could only transfer 4 semesters worth of classes, but later I found out I could keep taking classes at the community college. I was able to take these classes over the summer and transferred them (so I ended up with 5 semesters worth of community college credits) and then only paid for only 3 semesters at the university, which saved me about $6k.

Good luck!

Are you some sort of genius who has universities knocking down your door and begging you to come to them and offering you scholarships? If not, work 10 hours a day and go to school 4 hours a day. Maybe work 12 hours a day and have 4 roommates. Anything you need to do.

yeah. It is getting to the point where paying for school, becomes kind of trivial after all we have been through. Whenever I start freaking out about money for school, i just remember how far we have come. We'll find a way: scholarships, work, loans anything to accomplish our ultimate goal.

Where there is a will, there is a way.
Most of us are really quite talented individuals, despite our struggle, our circumstances and our unparalleled determination. We have accomplished so much in such a short period of time, imagine ourselves 10 years from now. Don't give up, there are so many options out there.

I have talked to a financial aid advisors at the school I hope to transfer out. What they have told me is that since I can't take any more classes at CC. To get 2-3 jobs and save. When I transfer I'm not gonna get a full ride, that I'm gonna owe thousands of dollars. Exactly what she told me. Right now I work at a deli for 10.00$/ hour, and a 711 for 8.50$. there is private loans but those go from 8 to 12 percent interest. I have to cosigner.

The only job that is available to me is UPS. They offer 2500 a semester. thats not enough. Im going to EE engineering. There is 3 schools in my state worth going to. 1. U of I. They offer me no type of financial help and its 43k a year. 2. UIC is 16000 a year but they also told me come up with the money. They won't help me since its a state university. 3. Illinois Institute of Technology. Its a private university and its 42k. They are the ones who have communicated with me more and do offer a transfer scholarship. But they have told me it won't be a full ride and to come up with thousands of dollars. exactly? i don't know until i apply.
