travelling domestically with EAD in 2016

i m reading conflicting reports about whether or not the EAD is sufficient ID for domestic travel. I know this was possible before, but will it be still applicble in 2016? ive travelled w just my il state id but the state was recently rejected an extension for real id compliance.

my passport just recently expired and it takes 2-3 months for it to be renewed. but my EAD is still valid.

EAD is REAL ID compliant. It is a federally issued identification directly issued by the department of homeland security. It's basically on par with Passports, Military IDs, and Enhanced DLs

A few years ago it would have been crazy to carry your EADs but now with the Real ID thing it's wise to carry it with you. Already states IDs are not enough for Air travel
