college bound, but HOW?

Hi everyone!
I'm so happy to have found this site and the many people whom I didn't know till now were in the same situation as me.
I'm currently entering my senior yr in high school and am applying to colleges. But my question is, how??
Will colleges even take me without an SSN? I have good grades, extracurriculars and test scores. All I need is an acceptance letter. Can anyone out there who has been in this situation help me out?? I'm living in California, so UCs are definetely my first choice.

Hey Welcome, Yes it's a bad thing that some universities won't accept you because of your illegal status as you can see we are all on the same page!!! that's why we want the dream to become a reality! I hope you do what you can to let it pass, We must act now!!!

You should do your first 2 years at a community college
1) It's cheaper ($20 a unit as compared to $2000)
2) It's easier (more flexible schedules and time to work)
3) It's easier to get into (well duh)
4) It's simple to transfer later on
5) You don't need a SS# and since you are in California if you've been attending school here for I think 4 years? You can get in-state
6) You still get a BA later on from UC

look, i am in the same situation, i just graduated from H.S., which means that last year, i was in you same situation...Universities will not reject you because of your social security #, the problem is that without a SS#, you wont b able to get any financial aids (only scholarships but you would have to win a very very big scholarship, because with small scholarships, you wont pay a UC) you also cant apply for private loans...i was hoping to get a private loan but then they told me that i had to have some sort of legal status, even when i had a U.S. citizen cosigner...i was very depressed last week when i had to contact UC Merced (which is where i was going) and tell them that i wasnt going to go there anymore...so now im going to a C.C. but UC merced told me that if i get some sort of status, they will accept me next year...so my advice is: apply to all the universities you can, cause you dont know whether u are going to get legalized this year or not...and if you do, you are going to get F. A. so yeah, also apply to as many scholarships as you can...but plz dont get too excited about going to a UC cause that may not happen, ...which UCs have you applied or are going to apply to?

It is your decision and no one wants to force you to do something you don't want. Still, it is easiers to get into a UC as a transfer than a freshman because there is less competition. Also, in many UCs you might end up taking classes in a huge classroom or with be lectured by an aid. Prof. that do a lot of research do not have the time to go and teach freshmans. If I am wrong UC students please correct me. On the other hand, community colleges are a magnet for losers. You know, kids and adults that are only wasting time and goofing around. That kind of mentality is very contagious so you have to be very focus or you wind up like all the 90% of community college students, doing nothing. Mostly, don't worry be happy. You sound like a very smart person who is driven and can overcome all types of issues. Have fun in college.

This is not the time to have pride or cosideration to your love ones. Take their money, make sad puppy faces at them. Turn their light off and cry out loud. Remind them that money spend in beer ans foot ball bets is not money spend in books. Remind them what is important: you and your future career!

thank you all for your help! it's so good to know that i'm not alone. is it ok for me to leave out my ssn and status throughout the application process and will i actually be able to attend any of the colleges that accept me?

I am from California too. UC's are definitely your best bet just because if you are in the top 10% of students in the state you are guaranteed admission to at least one UC. The other good thing is that once you are accepted California has a law that allows you to pay instate tuition if you graduated from a California High school. If you have any other questions pm me. I've actually seen admission forms where it TELLS you how to fill out the applications if you are illegal .. I forget what they said but I think they are on every form ..
