United we stand; divided we fall -Aesop

So rock steady's earlier thread kind of got to me, and it also pointed out to me that the momentum behind the Juan Gomez campaign had much fewer active members than we currently do, and yet he is now practically a household name. One of the things that seems to separate us from them was their organization, and I think with Dream coming up next month, we need a highly skilled and organized game plan if we want to fight for this as much as we can. As rock steady said, I don't want to repeat "let's do something" and then not offer a plan of action or leave it up to someone's hands; this is more of a template for how we should go about uniting and organizing ourselves into one fluid, efficient machine, and anyone's ideas on how we could go about doing so, before September.

I've been doing some research on the things we could possibly do, and other successful Dream organizations, so hopefully by tomorrow I'll have some concrete suggestions on how we could transform ourselves. Today I would just like to start with some ideas from you guys, and suggestions on how we could make ourselves more united, regional plans as I've seen brought up, issues we should face now before September gets here and etc. What do you think are good campaign ideas? What do you think we should steer away from? What should the image of Dream be that we'd like to project to the American people? What concerns do you have with the Dod bill that you think should be our top priority?

I don't want just a few people to come up with ideas that may not be shared by the majority, because then only a few people take action, so I'd like to invite everyone to share their thought so we can see where we stand, and then take it from there. Obviously if people try this, once we've come up with certain foundations we'd have to make it more private, but I've noticed there've been a lot of action campaigns that exclude people who may not come on dap every day or new members, and we need all the manpower we can get. I'm not asking for grand ideas, just anything that's popped in your mind. If you don't want to post you can PM me. I've just noticed going through the threads that we've got great potential and great ideas, but the undercurrent of unity in action seems to be missing, and that's what might separate Dream from passing.

This is something that everyone would have to take part in, not some let's appoint a leader and depend on them frame of mind. Anyhoo, just an idea. This is an article I found on what we should at least try to strive for, so read it if you like: http://www.nilc.org/immlawpolicy/DREAM/Dream007.htm

(and btw, i'm not advocating meeting up in person or anything b/c that's rather inpossible for many of us, just pointing out the organization they have is all)
If this is a bad idea, feel free to shut me up accordingly lol. I'm just an organizational freak is all, so do with it what you may

P.S. “Unity to be real must stand the severest strain without breaking”
Mahatma Gandhi - as in, this time around let's try to refrain from the bickering and pettyness as it draws us further apart rather than closer together; once Dream passes you can take an anger management class or two and get whatever revenge you've been storing up or whatever lol

P.S.S. For those of you who feel too meek or shy to participate, get over it b/c I'm as meek and shy as they come. Just this once; this isn't some high school party thing, this is your life we're talking about...and I promise I'm off my soapbox now lol

i think one of the most important things is for us to not have just one leader. There has to be a group of at least 10 people that are committed to this and that will basically get everyone else to be active. If there's only one person trying to get everyone else to call, most members won't give him/her credibility.

It's also important that when there's a calling campaign, all of the "leaders" show 100% commitment to it. When others see that, they'll realize that they must do things as well. (100% means calling, constantly trying to get the other members to call, posting news, trying to contact the media, discussing progress, etc.)

We can give ourselves some time to get ready, but once september comes, we need to be doing this full force.

Hello this is Juan Gomez. You do point out a good point. My friends were very organized in their effort and that was key. Without strong organization and leadership a National movement is very unlikely. Tommorow at 5:00 eastern I will be able to give you a better idea of what type of national movement can occur because we have a conference call with many DREAM Act organizations across the nation. As of now we are working on a coordinated movement among college and High school students. I will inform my friends about your hopes for a unified movemet. Feel free to email me at [email protected]. Also my friend Scott Elfenbein"s, who is the master organizer, email is [email protected]. Tell him I told you to email him.

Youtube I think is a great source for Dream, and if you need any form of help don't hesitate to let me know. You might want to check out the current Youtube Dream videos, to give you ideas of what you should and shouldn't do, and to see how others have approcahed the topic. The one thing I noticed about the Dream videos on Youtube is that they're not very diverse when it comes to the nationality of the students represented, and I know here on DAP we have a wide variety of cultures represented. So if you need anything and all again, just let me know! Thanks for doing this
