I'm a DACA recipient, and I've recently been admitted at a few law schools (admitted at UCLA, USC, Davis, Irvine, wait list at Columbia, and waiting for NYU). But now comes the hard part: paying for it all.

I'm probably going to pick UCI since they offered the most generous aid package (125k in scholarships), I qualify as in-state, and I might be able to live with my mom since she lives about 10 minutes away. Nonetheless, I'm probably going to have to take out at least 30k in loans (perhaps closer to 100k if living with my mom doesn't work out).

Does anyone have experience taking out loans for grad school? It looks like I will have to go through private loan providers, but I'm afraid that the interest rates will be insane. Also, it looks like I will need to ask a US citizen to co-sign the loan for me, which may be awkward, but is not impossible. I would appreciate any advice you guys might have.

It is insane how expensive law school can be. Attending a private law school in a major city (such as Columbia or NYU) can cost $325k (including tuition and living expenses). Luckily UCI should be much cheaper.

Hey Diogenes, best of luck to you. I'm currently a junior and I'm interest in law school after graduation. And I will be facing the same thing. I think that you should try to get the loan yourself if you have a good history, along with the common banks, you could try sallie Mae. I don't have experience getting student loans but I've done conventional and I go directly to my credit union and I just ask for a loan; they ask for my ID and social security number, they haven't asked to see my social security card.

Anyways, I wish you the best and I hope you get the best possible outcome on continuing your education.

All of the financial aid officers I have talked to so far seem to think that I will require a US citizen to co-sign a private student loan. Perhaps it is a quirk specific to student loans (luckily I didn't have to take out any for undergrad, so I have little experience with this). I will probably have to speak directly to the banks to get better information.

Good luck with your future law school application adventure!
